The EU Migrant Crisis

Nige dropping some truth bombs - if his predictions come true then each one of the 422k people who signed that petition will have blood on their hands imo.

I don't have an issue with your argument at all, it sounds quite logical and it's been put forward without any racial overtones.

The EU membership doesn't just affect immigration though, so I would need a know a lot more about what it brings before wanting to leave just to stop people from central Europe wandering over here freely.

It's ruined my town, I no longer feel safe in its town centre and my friends are being forced out of their homes by obscene behaviour from non English speaking neighbours who want them gone.

That's enough for me.

Interesting pictures of lawlessness from the Greek island of Lesbos.

hilarious thing is that is what I said.

Oh look seen 1 photo, that's it now lets change entire approach to immigration and just forget any statistics/facts/evidence all due to a single photo....

Im just interested to see what happens in a few months. Just let a load of people in, don't worry about what they are going to do for money/food/clothes etc. No way for them to get jobs as most don't speak the language. My bet is that crime in these areas is going to go through the roof. Not to mention the whole ISIS aspect of it.

Anyone know Slovenia's response to this? Guessing its probably the same as Slovakia's, given how similar the two countries are. Seems all the central Euro countries that includes Slavic ones are very against Merkel's plans, so I imagine Slovenia would be in that too.

Can't find anything concrete on google, though. Amiga?

Annnyone? Or are they just silent atm?

Fuelled only by use of an emotional image of a dead child all over Facebook.

Yup. And boy did it work.

So many posts on Facebook either sharing those horrid photos (bad taste, imho) or demanding that we take as many refugees as we can.

But then, most people think that family was trying to escape from Syria to Turkey, not going from Turkey to Greece for economic reasons. It's a detail the media were not falling over themselves to publicise.

Sorry mate, I'm not that up on Slovenian politics. If I was them I'd be quiet though, and hope that Germany doesn't notice them when it starts bullying other EU countries to take some boat people.

Saw on the link amiga provided, it's 257. A very modest number (but the country is tiny, mind you). However this is 2014, need the stats for what they're doing here and now.

I imagine they'll side with Slovakia on being against Merkel when the central European members draw up their oppositional stance, as Slovenia is largely a very Christian country like Slovakia, from what I recall.

Not sure if this story is legit or not, but what is certain is that the migrants are becoming more confident and belligerent. Take the ones at Calais for example, not even being covert any more, just trying to brute force their way in.

Something is going to kick-off somewhere.

From last year:

SLOVENIA

Migrants proposed: 496
Migrants taken: 230

Slovenia prime minister Miro Cerar has said the country had shown solidarity over the Mediterranean migrant crisis – Ljubljana has committed to sending a military vessel to help the EU’s rescue mission.

Yet, despite this, Slovenia has agreed to take less than half the proposed number of migrants from Italy and Greece.

Slovenia, population two million, has not been inundated with immigrants: 13,900 arrived in 2013, the majority, 11,600, not Slovenian nationals.

Slovenia’s net migration has been steady for the last eight years, with more people arriving than leaving in most years, but not in any huge numbers.

There were 385 asylum applications last year in Slovenia. In the same year, Ljubljana, of 165 decisions on whether to grant asylum, gave the green light to just 45.

Slovenia only became an independent country in 1991, so it is difficult to quantify how many Slovenians have benefited from emigration during the 20th century.

Money sent home from Slovenians working abroad has more than doubled over the last six years, rising from 235 million euros in 2009, to 502 million euros in 2012. It was 477 million in 2013, just over one percent of the country’s GDP.

They were going to Greece as thier asylum claim for Canada had been mishandled by the Turkish authorities.

But sure, why not try and mis-represent it as "economic migration".
