new company car time

Totally understand the looks side of things, but they do a Prius that as far as I'm aware is identical in terms of the drive mechanicals - it also may be fugly but they're pretty good in terms of space

Why kick yourself if not saloon?

Recently drove a 15 plate 1 series and they ride really well.

The basic spec is quite a good place to start with... have you had a look in one?

It was a "cloth" interior that I drove and that was quite pleasant... I actually preferred it to leather finish.

A quick look at the configurator brings a 120d m-sport (or non-m-sport) and the important options well within your budget.

I'm not familiar with the Lexus... but it would be miles better to drive than a Mondeo or Passat.

But... if you are craving a saloon... I've seen some decent 3 series lease deals hit my inbox recently & taking a look on the configurator again shows a 320i within budget or a 318d with good spec... otherwise a basic 320d SE manual is just in the margin.

If you thought the Lexus was nimble in sports mode... you've got to try a BMW in sports mode... I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

not sure if i would. the extra room and boot space are nice. but then i guess its a bigger car to manouver and park...

i havent looked at bmws in detail, the 1 series looks like it could be a good option, as the co2 isnt too bad. looking on comcar, theres only £2 a month difference between the 116d and 118d...

id love a 3 series but the tax is just more than im willing to pay really. Car and private miles, i think £140 max, possibly £150 if i can get something worth it.

Isn't the tax based on the vehicle value?

The ones I'm talking about are all within your £30k limit... the 3 series isn't really that much more expensive than the 1 series.

yeah its the value x co2 (bik%) = taxable value x 20% tax

confuses me.....plus i have a fuel card with private miles. so that drastically adds to it.

At the risk of being kicked off the forums, may I suggest the Insignia?!
I've driven a couple and found them comfortable, and smooth, as a cruiser. They should also be excellent value if you want lots of toys.

Depends how important the badge is!

Badge?

Vauxhall Insignia is no different from the other cars mentioned in the thread... VW/Ford/Toyota/Lexus

I only recommended BMW as it is within budget & it's generally a better drivers car with decent comfort compared to all the others in this thread :p

BMW earned the status by making good cars (and engines), it wasn't given freely & it's not simply a marketing gimmick ;)

If a Lada was the best "badge" for his money/wishlist... I'd happily recommend that :p

A car i dont mind the look of. one to consider like you say due to value and extras to add

As it's the same engine and similar weight, I'd have through the 118d/318d or 120d/320d would have been a similar figure?

with fuel its an extra £33 a month. with the SE model (which id want as basic) thats under 30k but as soon as i had navigation etc it bumps it over..

of course, id assume my company can get better deals with packages. well, hopefully!

That sounds OK to me... I'd happily spend £33/month to get a 1 or 3 series over a Ford/Toyota/VW/Vauxhall... especially for 30k miles a year.

Go for a test drive... see if you agree.

I've seen plenty of offers that'll get you one under the sticker price, it won't be hard to find :)

Id like to think so too. £161 a month as a rough guide it seems...

So much for looking at reasonable lol.

I will go and see about a test drive. Only worry is, it might make me really want one!

Afraid I'd far rather have a nicely specced insignia for motorway trips than a 120d

Or Mondeo/ Passat for that matter

If a Superb was an option I wouldn't even be considering anything else

Volkswagen Golf MK7 GTD
Mercedes A220 CDI AMG
Skoda Fabia/Octavia VRS Diesel
Audi A3 2.0-litre TDI
Ford Focus ST TDCi
SEAT Leon SC 2.0 TDI FR
Volvo V40 D4

I find them vile... I had one as a rental for too long... horrifically uncomfortable, terrible damping and just not a nice place to be... both VW and Seat do a better job with similar equipment.

Couldn't disagree more tbh - lovely, comfortable, well equipped cars for the money (imo of course)

Jsut goes to show how important it is to actually drive these things before commiting I guess
