Winter is coming

Allow the local tramps to shelter in your living room. They get to come in out of the wind and rain, you get to harvest their body heat. Everyone's a winner.

You can get foil stuff to go behind the radiators which helps make sure heat doesn't go straight into the walls and get lost.

You can also get plastic sheeting like clingfilm which you stick to your windows, adding an extra layer of insulation/glazing. My girlfriend used to live in a flat with old sash windows -- you could actually see daylight down the sides so that stuff was a godsend. (It was still freezing though)

Calor gas heater in your main living space. Gas is like 25-30 a bottle and heaters can be picked up new for 100 quid, or 20-30 quid second hand. A bottle will last 2-4 weeks depending on how much you use it.

Or just smash your furniture and burn that.

Long shot, but can you apply for that free insulation?

Mother in law did under some scheme, she got it free as shes in her 80's but I would think there are other schemes? My uncle (Who is about 58) got it for £99!
