no you wouldn't, you'd have the euro for a start as only the uk is allowed not to

also you'd take a massive hit on farming subsidies.

You mean like the 230 million euros of farming subsidies that was due to Scotland but was spent throughout the UK?

http://www.arc2020.eu/2013/11/has-westminster-taken-e230-million-of-scottish-farmers-money/

Also, there is no mechanism by which a country without it's own currency can possibly enter the Euro so your other point is nonsense as well.

That's not entirely true. The Danish aren't in the Euro either.

Exactly. An independent Scotland wouldn't really be allowed in the Euro initially. We would take the pound for a short while, until the muppets in charge realise they simply don't have the economic controls they need to control the Scottish economy.

Then we would have to start our own currency with our own central bank. This works well while the oil price remains high, but a Scottish currency would be linked in no small part to the oil price.

Look at Norway (as the SNP would have had us do all through the referendum campaign). With the current low oil price their currency has lost 1/3 of its value. So what happens at this point is we need bailed out, since we haven't had our oil money for long enough to reduce our independence from it. Our currency collapses, and we get sucked into the Euro, at a terrible exchange rate, and end up just like Greece.

It sounds like a wonderful situation. The only thing is, it might sound like scaremongering, but thinking it through to the logical conclusion, this is pretty much exactly how it will go. Whiskey & Shortbread money won't be enough to save us from another low Oil price.

The lying scumbag Carmichael on trial today (although he never bothered showing up either today or yesterday).

This is a win win for the nationalists. Worst case is that he gets off with it but will be permanantly damaged in the public eye and will linger for 5 years.

Best case is he is forced to resign his seat, he will pay the costs of the petitioners, and then be replaced by an SNP MP. At that point there will be the same amount of Panda's in Scotland as there are unionist MP's!

Doubt he will be replaced by an SNP MP though. Them islanders have a clue about who butters their bread...

Carmichael only has a majority of 817 and that was before he smeared the first minister, lied about it and then was found out. His share of the vote was down 20.6% since the last election and the SNP were up 27.2%. The tide is turning in Orkney and Shetland.

but i thought the oil was just "the icing on the cake"

more nonsense from the SNP.

http://www.theguardian.com/news/dat...be-economically-better-off-it-was-independent

clearly shows the SNP number relying not only on oil prices of $110 per barrel but production also increasing in 2018.

/edit cant believe i am posting in this thread again

Well it has to rise eventually, but regardless.

I think the ulterior motive is to mooch off of the EU for more grants and basically start inviting the world in.

The Scottish referendum was a joke, they wanted to leave the UK and regain sovereignty only to then sell their sovereignty to the EU and become yet again a slave nation to the corrupt bloated behemoth that is the EU.

Eh? We are already in the EU. We would not have ceded any more sovereignty to the EU than we already have via the UK's mambership. In fact, we'd have gained MORE sovereignty by leaving the UK.

Yes but when Scotland would have left the UK, they would have left the EU and Salmond wanted to join straight back into the EU. Swapping one master for another.

Its OK, they don't mind losing sovereignty to anyone so long as its not to the English.

Everyone in Scotland needs to put this to bed already. Fed up hearing about it (I know i clicked the thread, but that is besides the point)

I think the crunch will come if England votes to leave the EU, and tries to drag Scotland and Wales with it.
