Lawyer who shamed barrister over 'sexist' LinkedIn email believes men make workplaces a 'repugnant w

Why are so many people saying the guy was "coming on" to her?

Can an (older, married) guy not give any other woman a compliment? Do we all assume he was looking to have an affair with her because he paid her a compliment?

Yea, because all men are scum, sex starved morons. Idiots the lot of them....

Lets not be overdramatic here. Her career is not going anywhere.

True - she won't get anywhere now, or at least not as quickly.

I certainly wouldn't want to work with such a vindictive person, or feel I have to tread on egg shells around her.

Of course she had every right to go to social media about it, but for a clever girl, she's being rather dense. It could have and should have been handled far better.

I genuinely believe there was no sexual undertone in the guy's comment. Just because you say someone looks nice doesn't mean you want to jump in bed with them.

Agreed. Not only could this make her very unemployable in her chosen career of law, but also it could affect her current work a lot with her colleagues.

don't see why it would make her unemployable

I mean she's self employed anyway and plenty of the sort of clients she has as a human rights barrister probably share her views anyway...

I mean I doubt some organisation trying to bring a case in support of some oppressed group is going to stop and think 'oh no the barrister is a feminist'

She's already working with Michael Mansfield QC. If he can find work then she can too.

All totally ridiculous.

All he said was stunning picture. Not you're gorgeous, not you have a stunning body, not I'd love to take you out or give you a rogering.

No objectifyng language I can see. Totally ridiculous and a sad reflection of how everyone needs to be offended about everything nowadays.

Give her a falcon punch.

She released private correspondance for her own personal reasons... if she can do that with a rather harmless PM then think of what she could do with confidential briefs she personally disagrees with.

Apparently some people miss the fact that context matters.

Context only matters in the appropriateness of a message. It does not matter when you are claiming the message is sexist and misogynist. The definitions of these words do not change in different settings.

If you cant make a deal with an opposing party because your barrister is shown to be unsavory and witless, you might as well not bother to hire that person.

Another self-centred person. If they didn't like the comment then tell them directly and leave it at that. No excuse to broadcast it to the whole world on social media.

the two are entirely unrelated, I doubt anyone would seriously question that

Depends on if her potential future employers google her name or not

she's a barrister - she doesn't have an employer nor is she likely to in future - she is self employed

clients of human rights barristers are unlikely to be bothered that their barrister is a femenist

They're both silly in my opinion.

He should know better and it wasn't very professional, it is linkedin after all which is supposed to be a professional networking tool.

However, she seems to be a bitter cow who takes herself far too seriously and should have just accepted the compliment and just get on with her life.

I agree and I believe she will come out of all of this badly. It was a private communication and could have been dealt with privately. Nobody will want to engage a barrister who publishes private communications.

Perhaps, but the defendants she goes after will most definitely use it against her.

Really?

Seems reasonable to spud!
