Hi,

I've just built my X99 rig and I have never overclocked before, but following Linus' guide I:

Increased core voltage to 1.3v
Changed CPU strap to 125
Changed CPU multiplier to 36

My AIDA64 has been running for 20 minutes so far, temperatures under a Corsair H110 seem to be around 65c with the max temperatures being between 69c and 81c.

Are these sufficient temperatures for what I am doing? I don't plan on squeezing my CPU too hard, 4.5GHz would be nice to keep though.

Cheers,

Yeah that looks fine. Remember gaming and actual rendering will be cooler. I always run rog bench. 1.3v is pretty standard for 4.5ghz. Try and lower it. My 5930k will run on 1.24v at 4.5ghz without issue.

Will I run in to any issues at 1.3v? From what I understood it was pretty safe to run at 1.3v. I planned to do a "simple" overclock and get it over and done with, if you get what I mean. If this isn't a good way of going about it, how much should I lower the voltage each time? 0.01?

And if so... How long should I be running stress tests each time I lower the voltage?

Thanks for your help :)

1.3v is fine, you wouldn't want it much higher, but it's OK. A lower voltage would decrease temps and it's never a particularly bad thing to run lower when you can, so it's worth doing IMO.

I would try 1.28, and then decrease minimally from there.

Hi,

Thanks for your help, My AIDA64 is about to hit 2 hours done - Would you suggest running it for a few more hours before lowering the voltage? Everywhere I have read suggests doing it for 8-12 hours which is a little tedious when making minimal adjustments :p

Just use your PC normally for stressing it. All stress test is tedious. Your own tasks is what you need stability for so just use it.

As has been said use your PC as you normally would to stress test, for me thats Battlefield 4 :D

If you want to use a program Asus Real Bench is good.

Gonna be putting mine together this evening, will be air cooling with a k2 for a while until I can afford an ek predator cooler. Hopefully the k2 should be ok. Max temp of 83c on real bench with the 4790k in sig at 4.7 on 1.300v.

Running a 5820K at 4.5GHz (125MHz bus with 1.26v) with a Raijintek Triton cooler. Idle is around 33' under load running Aida max temp mid 60's

I'm running the Triton in push pull with a pair of Corsair SP120's on top and the stock fans in pull underneath and a Phanteks PWM Fan Hub controlling both. Loving this setup.

Running 5820K at 4.7 - 1.275v using a H100.

3hr BF4 stint temps mid/high 50's.

Running Aida/Asus stress tests high 70's.
very impressive, particularly for gaming. On high end air the CPU in sig will easily hit 75c in games. Hoping the 5820k is a good deal lower when clocked. Haven't got round to using it much.

Lol, knew that was coming.:D

Though technically I still have the setup in sig. Albeit in boxes. Waiting on the proper Io shield for the mpower board as I got sent the wrong one. Don't think ill bother reinstalling windows. Just remove the old drivers etc before installing the msi board stuff. Then time to start clocking, (after much reading).

I would be asking the the man who provided it for that info :)

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with yours.

Very pleased with mine, didn't quite win the chip lottery but it's decent.:)

Aye, shield is on the way. Tbh though I'm that busy at work I cant get time to mess about with the system.

4.4/5 ghz and ill be more than happy. From 8 Packs review of the 6700k clocked to 4.5, its very similair to a 5820k at 4.2. 4.5 on the 6700k is virtually identical in benchmarks to the 4.7 clock I've been running in the 4790k.:)

I have a 5820k @ 4.2GHz using 1.25v. Other settings on auto.
I use an H100i with push / pull Akasa Pirahna fans on PWM in a Corsair 240 Air case.
It idles at around 38c and stress testing using Intel Burn test on very high settings hits 80c.
Temps seem a bit high to me?
I tried 4.4Ghz on 1.35v and temps hit 90c under stress testing.

Quick update: 1.26v seems to be the lowest I can get my chip down to whilst being stable in the most demanding game (GTA:V set to use 12 threads) CPU-wise. Not had an issue in the other games I play and the temperatures under AIDA are similar to the ones in the OP.

Pretty happy that my chip can do 4.5GHz and it makes me fairly happy I decided to get a 6 core over 4 core. :)
