2dr convertible for £5k?

LMAO at a sub £9k 996.

If 2 seats is okay, then:

Honda S2000
BMW Z4
Boxster S

I can't think of a single four seat convertible for your money that will be much fun to drive (and that comes from someone with a 250bhp Saab 9-3 convertible).

If you've never driven a VTEC, drive the S2000. The engine isn't to everybody's taste, but if you "get it" It's worth owning one for a while.

MX-5 - a drivers car but just... no! lol Sorry... great cars but no... I have a shaved head so I'd get told to move to Brighton...

It's the best fit for your stated specifications. You seem concerned about what people will think of you for driving it. Why? How does the quote go again? "You won't worry about what people think of you once you realise how seldom they do". And if they think less of a dude for driving an MX5, their opinions are invalid anyway, so **** 'em. At most, you'll get a gentle ribbing from your mates.

On what planet is a TT a drivers car compared to an MX5

An MX5 is light, RWD with 50/50 weight distribution and an engine that loves to see the redline all day.

A TT has none of that

Hmmm I get your point about the MX-5. :)

I understand the S2000 to be a rev monster? That appeals coming from a motorbike background where the fun doesn't start until 12,000rpm!

Z4, bought my 3.0i for £4800 at the end of June.

z4 3.0 si if you can ( reckon I'll flog mine for circa 5k in the new year), such a sorted motor and such a nice place to be

albeit hugely gay

S2000 is going to be pretty rough at 5k?

Would also rather have an MK3 MR2 than anything from the MX5 stable but I wouldn't pay anywhere near 5k for either.

5k would get you a lovely Rev 3 MR2 turbo that will blow most things into the weeds :D.

Very nice Z4 Gravy. :)

XK8 is an interesting shout. I appreciate the out of the box thinking as it opens up ideas.

Thanks for the input all. I'm not rushing into anything but I'm trying to narrow it down.

All my mates rave about Volvo's and 450bhp+ RS Cosworths as they have a lot of ford stuff.

A curve ball but I notice a lot of RX-8's. The RX-7's used to be awesome but what about the RX-8?

Also - £500+ to tax each year!? On a 1.3....

RX8 is neither a convertible or 2 doors

It's not a conventional engine and they drink fuel and oil, hence the emissions
