Crane collapse in Mecca leaves scores dead, many more injured.

You see those things from miles away on the skyline and you don't appreciate just how massive they are until you're working on a site with one or two looming right over you.

yeah Bin Laden family owned crane too.... (though not surprising since they've got quite a big construction business there)

wonder if any slightly nutty Christians will see this as a sign or 'payback' on 9/11.... after all God loves america right?

Saudi's do need to sort their health and safety out - they get enough deaths from stampedes during the Hajj itself - and sometimes make rather appalling announcements afterwards

one of his sons, for example, was denied a visa to the UK because of public statements he'd made which seemed to support his father

I've spent the last 20 odd years working in the middle east, life is cheap to the rich Arabs. If 10 die there is another 1000 waiting to take their jobs.

This is how they construct massive buildings in a year.

Sadly true. Some of their offshore safety records are appalling.

Someone mentioned Christian nutjobs saying it's a sign of God's punishment or whatever, wonder if any muslims will see it in the same way?

Let's just hope that the death toll doesn't continue to rise

Where did I say it was a conspiracy or plot to war?

Religion is based on portents and signs. This happened in one of, if not the holiest of places to muslims on earth, on the anniversary of a day that many see as being the start of a war against muslims by the west. Oh and it was a lightning strike...another famous religious portent.

All I did was ask if any muslims might see it as a sign of punishment.a

You get nut jobs in every religion so undoubtedly you'll have some muslim thinking it's a sign they've not murdered enough innocents somewhere in the world.

It's the same for every religion, some nut job will look at an event and put some weird logic as to why it happened. Islam's no different.
