Why can people not drive on the motorway correctly?

If you were listening to the radio, eating your breakfast, drinking a coffee and doing you hair in the vanity mirror like you're supposed to on your daily commute you wouldn't have noticed all the bad driving. OP highway code fail.

"They", as in not the OP. The people who are already overtaking in the middle lane.

Oh, blimey, yeah - you shouldn't rely on someone else to let you out. You should anticipate the slow vehicle ahead and try and match the speed of the middle lane as much as you can and merge over, if not you just have to wait. Same with joining, I've had people go utterly BONKERS at me when they match my speed on the sliproad and I can't move over, all they have to do is slow down or speed up, but no - get angry at me instead.

So WHY, OH WHY do the cars in the middle lane who are doing say 72mph NOT MOVE INTO THE FURTHER RIGHT LANE?

If they are not overtaking people in the middle lane, then why should they move into the right hand lane? They're overtaking the trucks on the left lane so are in the right location. They are not obligated to make room for you.

Problem is that can see i would like to move over and they have a good 3-5 seconds to do so before they actually overtake me. Yet they ignore this and carry on which forces me to slow down.

I am only in a 1.5DCI Smart car at the moment so cant just floor it and expect to go anywhere faster lol

The problem is people driving in the middle lane the entire journey are always overtaking slow moving trucks, thats if you drive on the m25, the left lane is one long lorry train.

You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past. Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking

There is no obligation, but the question is "why wouldn't they move over?"

I mean, seriously, what do they lose?

Part of the M25 lost it's hard shoulder to make a lane that no one uses, apart from trucks. Some bits have 5/6 lanes and they're all doing the same speed. It's infuriating.

So they have to slow down to let you out?

Or move over if they can? There's times where other motorists can help each other out with little inconvenience but it seems the trend is to be as difficult and obstructive to other road users as possible. I mean yeah they don't have to, but why be ****s about it?

Well as long as we have established that there is no obligation then we're in agreement.

You might do it if you're feeling considerate but the point is you don't have to, so Diagro is acting a bit entitled isn't he!

WHY DO THEY NOT MOVE OVER LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TOOOOOO?

Because a lot of people in this country quite frankly suck at motorway driving (probably connected to it not being part of learning to drive) sadly what you have experienced is the reason so many people hog the middle lane, if we could only find a way to fix that cause then the hogging symptom would be greatly reduced too.

When I did pass plus years ago the cop teaching it actually told us not to move into lane 1 if we knew we would be moving back into lane 2 within ten seconds, because of the effort of double MSM/etc and the risk of some idiot trying to pass us at 71MPH and boxing us in.

Where does it say they are supposed to move from their lane?

If they are in lane two and a car they are approaching in lane 1 starts indicating they are supposed to either move to lane 3 or reduce speed to avoid a conflict.

It may also be that the middle driver is only focused on the middle lane rather than everything around him and therefore unaware that there are other road users

Why would you only do it if you're feeling considerate? Surely, by default, you'd just do it - you'd only NOT do it if you're feeling like being a arse
