Still better than me! I'm sat on 207 light. Got a Legendary Hand Cannon and Cloak and that's pretty much it, rest of my gear are rares and old Exotics / Crota stuff.
Tomorrow's raiding will be hilarious. Is there a Light level requirement to get in? It's probably not a good sign that I can't even get into Weekly Heroic yet
AFAIK no details of the raid have been released but the general consensus is it will be around 280-300 light as vendor gear is 280. Personally, while I would like to give the raid a go as soon as possible, I would rather wait and be able to give a proper go instead of being severly underlevelled and squishy.
I've played the Trial (up to level 7 or so) and it's fun, but I have a few questions before I take the plunge:
1. Is there a lot of variety in the combat/encounters/dungeons (or whatever they are called)? The game play is fun, but if it's just waves and waves of the same 5 enemies I've already seen then I can see it get boring fast.
I'll start of by saying I haven't played Diablo 3 so can't make a comparisson to that. Vanilla Destiny suffered badly for this though TDB and HoW improved things slightly but TTK has made it a lot better. For example (without giving too much away) in Vanilla you used to just ghost a door and fight waves of enemies however in TTK you have to fight your way around to find pieces of a 'key' to open the door. Ultimately though Destiny is an FPS MMO and everything is always going to be some variance on fighting waves of enemies.
2. Doesn't it get repetitive visiting the same locations over and over again? This reminds me of Diablo 3, grinding the same locations all the time hoping for a better drop. I hate Diablo 3.
It depends on why you are visiting the same locations but yes it can get boring. The general trend of people playing is cyclical, loads of people play after DLC but numbers eventually drop of as there is no new content and people get bored of repeating it. Again, TTK has improved this with the number of quests however the quests are still in the same locations as the missions so nothing massively new when doing them.
3. Is it challenging, or does it at least get challenging? I don't want to play and grind for hours when there is no challenge. This was another issue I had with Diablo 3 (at least in my limited playtime) enemies are no threat and you just run around pressing 2-3 keys for hours and hours.
IMO most of the story missions aren't a challenge. The challenge comes in the end game content however the end game is set at the level of the end game at that time i.e Vault of Glass raid is level 30, PoE is level 35 etc. So now we are overlevelled it becomes a little easier but Vault of Glass, for example, is still a challenge you can only complete it by working as a team.
4. What does the end game consist of?
This is where Destiny falls down IMO, the end game content is left behind come new DLC so while vault of Glass is still one of the best bits of Destiny, the only reason to run it is for fun as the drops are all old stuff. End game though is in a few forms since release;
Raids - fireteam of 6 players get thrown in to a mission without much instruction on where to go or what to do. Many different mechanics employed; hold objectives, defend objectives, mazes, puzzles to work out etc.
Prison of Elders (PoE) - Fight in arena's defeating waves of enemies while completing objectives (kill a high profile target, destroy objectives, capture an objective etc.) with each play through ending with a boss fight. Different bosses have different tactics - one puts you in a containment bubbles which you can't get out of, others 'burn' the floor so you can't stand still etc.
Trials of Osiris (ToO) - PvP end game. 3 v 3 elimation style team death match.
There is also Court of Oryx and a new raid in TTK but I haven't played Court of Oryx and the raid is release tomorrow so don't know what is involved in them.
Overall, I would say the trial has probably given you a good indication of what to expect, if you liked it and would like to play some more then I would recommend it. It is an enjoyable game and it is possible to play for silly number of hours. If the trial didn't really appeal to you then I don't think Destiny is for you.
