The labour Leader thread...

How would you like to see it paid for?

What tax rises or service cuts would you like to see so we can afford to nationalise and run public transport?

Tax the rich more as they can afford it. No need to penalise the poor by slashing the welfare system, that's just immoral and unethical, unless of course you're a true blue tory in which case it's just good business.

You can't tax the truly rich as they'll just leave the country. It'll be the middle income bracket getting squeezed again as usual.

How will Sir be funding this re nationalisation?

I'll leave that to labour to sort out...tax the rich...close all corporation tax loopholes for starters...

Plus I'm not so sure that the top 1% rich would leave TBH...this is political spin...

Created by the Tory party.

"Tax the rich more", can you possibly give a bit more detail here. It is a nice soundbite obviously but what do you mean by "rich" and what do you mean by "more"? We are going to need to raise billions after all to bring public transport back to state ownership.

I'm not a Tory btw, I just like some details on how my socialist utopia is going to be funded before voting for it.

The more you earn the more pay in tax. It's not rocket science is it ? Currently the wealthiest people in the UK are exploiting tax loopholes so that they can avoid paying their fare share.

In other words "I have no idea".

Which is part of the problem really, far too many of the left going for the usual solutions with no real idea on how to implement them. Tax the rich, close tax loopholes, crack down on avoidance (or even evasion if the person actually knows a little about what they are talking about).

But no details on how, just some hand waving and vague pronouncements.

The state, the state is currently subsiding the rail industry, underwriting the risk for private companies while they take the profits.

So, the state would use tax revenue to buy back the rail industry and then continue to subside it to keep fares low.

Great news if you use public transport and don't pay tax. Not so great news for us net contributors.

I don't agree....the mere fact that in 2015 people needing food banks highlights just how bad the Tory government are managing this country...

I mean ...it's not hard to look after the vulnerable...

It is hard if you have the selfish urge to conserve money and keep the poor and rich divide in check...

They won't have to buy them back, they just take them over when the the franchises come available.

Just like they did with the East Coast line and returned a profit for the taxpayer. Then the Conservatives sold it off again.

Now you're being silly. I gave you the correct answer and you have just chosen to ignore it. Ignorant much ?

Coming from you that is just hilarious. :D

Great soundbites, but again, isn't at all answering the question. It is a diversion. "Look at the food banks!" isn't an answer to "How are you going to pay for nationalising public transport?".

You seem to have a problem with written English. Tax the wealthy more and provide for the poor more. Are you really going to deny that isn't the way to a fairer society ?

At what levels will you increase the tax rates?
What 'loopholes' as you call them will you close and how?

Give us those specifics so we have a notional clue as to what you would actually do.
