My new ride : BMW Z4 35i

Hi there

Have to say you made the better choice, am sure the BMW is the better drive and probably more fun.

I am sure the Honda will sell great, but for its just another FWD hot hatch, I am not seeing anything particular special about it to set it apart from all the other 4 cylinder FWD hot hatches. Yeah it can do the ring in a real fast time, but that seems about it, if all people are interested in is ring times then there are lots of cars for less money (not brand spanking new) that do it even faster. I simply think Honda have being greedy with the price, I mean 32k for a hot hatch come on, just seems to much. Call me old fashioned but I'd rather drop 32k on a stunning M3 CSL and have a true drivers car and one that will still no doubt fetch north of 30k in 10 years, maybe a lot more.

If I was buying a hot hatch to use on the road I have to say the ones which appeal to me the most are the Focus RS and Golf R. The RS just seems incredible value for money from Ford, 2.3 hugely tunable engine, 4WD torque vectoring system and the Golf R also with a decent 4WD system and the choice of DSG gearbox.

But still at this kind of money, over 30k I am no longer looking at hot hatches, I am either looking at something far more premium and higher class such as used BMW, Porsche, Mercedes etc. or doing as I done myself and for 35k getting Ford's flagship car, Mustang, all the toys and one immense high revving 5.0l V8 motor, the value for money is staggering, one can only imagine if we got to buy them at US prices. ;)

BMW looks great and they are epic drives, congrats on the purchase!! :)

Thanks Gibbo,

On reflection and taking the "new" car spectacles off, the Type R was just a stupid call. I am 43 and a IT contractor, the Type R would not have suited me.

Looks like the sleep nights is less, picking it up Thursday now.

Just gotta sort out Honda now and get my money back. I can see another week or more worth of hassle as they are shockingly bad. Call centre is completely jammed at the moment. They have serious issues.

Make sure you also write a letter to your dealership where you placed the deposit, so they have it in writing that you wish to cancel your order and want your deposit back on the grounds they have failed to meet your expectations with delivery time.

£32k for a Civic or this.

£32k for a Civic

Clearly you owe your mate your life for convincing you to see the error of your ways :D

excellentay! Great colour combo, looks so much fresher than my E85 Z4 (similar colour combo / grey with red). And this is making me miss my 335i haha. N54 is an immense engine.

I am dealing directly with Honda UK now as the dealership is refusing to contact me. They have it in emails to all directors , support and CEO with clear indication for me to cancel the order, reclaim all monies back.

Awaiting a call from Honda today to discuss this and whether or not I see them in court. Either way I haven't signed any tri party agreement, only a pre order deposit so they are on very dodgy grounds, but being a large company they will not make it easy I am sure. I am ready for a fight and will go fully public with several mags that are interested in the story and the potential problems with Type R

I loved my 335i JB3, but I went on a sensible 2 years with the lease 1.6d Civic. The N54 is a cracking engine with so much expansion to it.

If you get nowhere, start posting on their FB page, you will be amazed at how quickly they get in touch then.......

:) Auto Express want to interview me on the whole sorry matter with the Type R. Nice to have in the back pocket if Honda UK don't play ball and compensate all of my costs when I get the call today.

That should read well in the mag sat on all of the dealers customer waiting areas. Type R failed delivery for 8+ weeks, dealerships refuse to deal with customer and Honda UK hiding fact that there is issues with the Type R and unable to give any delivery dates or explanations as well as refusing to give costs back to the customer :)

Well it looks like I am talking to the press this week as Honda have just fobbed me off and told me tough. Spoken to dealership eventually and I will get my deposit back, but all my other costs I will have to fight for and that is not including any compensation or apology for the 8 weeks or more of bad experience, non information and downright appalling service.

Found out that within the last email my Type R was scheduled in an email to the dealership on the 14th October, but not a confirmed date and others even later such as December and January.
Type R order is now cancelled.

Over to the auto magazine to shame Honda and warn people about the Honda Experience

:D

So much cheaper for them to set you right from the outset, now they'll probably have to do it anyway to save face.

The dealership now seems as relieved as I am that it is now over. Yes their customer relationship has been poor as well, but they in the dark from Honda as much as me, just I had the balls to fight back.

Dealership has no issue (of course legally as well) in sorting out deposit and agrees to let me keep the loan whilst I sort out a replacement (hence this thread with the Z4).

He did warn me that Honda will try and play nasty big corp and said think carefully before you act, but do what you want to do. So tomorrow I am handing it over to one of the big auto mags who have shown an interest in taking this case on for their main column.

So chin up my end, new Z4 convertible on Thursday, deposit back when I hand the loaner back and let the press try and sort out at least an apology or even some compo for all the wasted time / costs.

If you think an extra 7-8 weeks is a long time to wait for a delivery, then don't ever order an Audi!
