MSI GTX 950

What are you intending to run with it. I would try to get at least a 960/380 if wanting any decent level of graphics tbh.

GTA V, Deus Ex HR, Skyrim plus the various new titles coming out later on like Fallout 4, etc.

Also (not that many people will have heard of it) the latest version of Trainz - "A New Era" - which is appallingly optimised in particular for AMD cards (it runs my laptop GPU consistently at 90C) but also chokes on the 650 despite having graphics not much better than earlier versions of Trainz.

DXHR and Skyrim are smooth on a 7850... They're 360/PS3 titles. Assuming no mods, of course.

GTA V is a totally different proposition, as will be any new title like FO4.

A 950 is going to be obsolete the second you buy it. I wouldn't expect it to deal with new games coming this year or next. A 960 isn't going to last long either.

If it's a stop-gap, go 2nd hand. Then splurge as much as you can on a Pascal or new AMD card next year. Not too far away now... (we hope!)

But...but..."GEFORCE GTX 950 PLAY THE FUTURE." (according to Nvidia's marketing :p)

My eye caught on this one:

The budget not stretching to a 980, presumably this will be a worthwhile replacement for my GTX 650 1Gb card?

Although that card is probably fine for only a fiver more your into 960 territory, the EVGA superclocked 960 is only £15 more. Saying that the 980's are also in the same price bracket, the 950 range IMO is a bit too expensive for its performance.

Opps managed to double post and quote myself, that's a new one for me, serves me right for doing it from my phone.:)
