All I got was a bazillion helms and gauntlets. The only 2 exotic weapons were hawk moon and invective. Very frustrating till you pause and realise that you probably shouldn't have any of them!

The worst thing for me was that I couldn't afford a huge load of coins, but two of my friends were away that weekend. As I had their accounts on my PS4 they both asked me to run it a load of times for them. I did 40 runs for 1 friend and 80 runs for another. They both ended up getting way more exotics than I did. They both owe me big time.
Exactly, same here.
The majority of people that did that are the same people that will moan about feeling betrayed when Xur sells Gjallahorn because they feel that they "earned" it
This is my thinking. I've bought a bunch of Three of Coins and I'll just pop them as and when I come across an ultra...not in a desperate rush to get everything.
Starting to run my hunter through the quests now so plenty of opportunity...and exotic quests still to do!

I never understood those people. I had 3 Gjallarhorns - one I got from soloing a nightfall, 2 I got from the Deathsinger in Crota's End. I could say I "earned" them, but really I just got lucky from RNG. If anything, clearing the old weeklies to earn strange coins to buy stuff was a more legitimate way to "earn" something. Hell, I got my Icebreaker from a purple engram in October, no way in hell I earned that!
Edit: The only weapon I felt I really "earned" was Black Hammer. I learned to solo the entire Crota raid with all 3 classes just so I had 3 chances each week to get it, and it took me until around my 40th kill to actually get the weapon to drop. That really felt like I'd earned it!
Looks like I'll be buying the hawkmoon from Xur as I'm pretty fond of my hand cannons, still have my word of crota, fatebringer and last word hc's from year one. Really wanted them to bring fatebringer to year 2 but sadly not meant to be. Will be interesting to see which legendary HC will be the new fatebringer.
I'm also a tad bit confused with the vanguard heroic strikes?? Last night I wasn't getting any legendary marks so I'm assuming that I won't get anymore this week until the reset next week as I've done too many??

Nope currently have about 130 marks on my hunter at the moment. No other characters I'm using altho I have a titan sat at level 9, probably use that consumable and get him to 25 but in all honesty I don't have enough time to do 2 characters lol and I'm very fond of my hunter.
I still haven't got it all straight about the limits on marks, I just play until it stops listing marks as a reward. You earn marks for the first 3 strikes you do per account (not per character). They replace the old weekly strike but so to disadvantage players with only 1 character they made it so it is account capped.
Ahh ok seems like you are right, only way I can now earn marks is by doing the daily. Vanguard heroic strikes no longer list marks as rewards for me, rather just experience now. So really 7x15 marks for the daily and 3x10 for the heroic...which works out to be 135 marks a week so unless you are dismantling legendaries, I can't see how u can get to 200 marks a week on your character
at least with pre-ttk you could easily earn your 200 vanguard marks per week by doing your daily, weekly and nightfall or just strikes. Maybe the nightfall makes up for the shortfall but I haven't seen how many marks they give on completion.

Is there a 'better' or preferred build for hunters at the mo? Looking at the items from the Xur chap and not sure if i would benefit from anything or not? Only just hit lvl 40 so not really sure what to aim for stat wise

I had hit 200 marks by the Friday morning of the first week. I've spent over 250 marks easily and I still have 100 left. Marks aren't hard to come by tbh.

I wouldn't say there is a better build. The gloves on sale today will give you double melee. That's double smoke grenades, double blink strike, or double throwing knives. In certain situations each of those would be incredibly useful.
All Year 1. Xür is selling Year 2.
oh my bad, I forgot it was year one, got a couple of yr2 from the three coins thingy.
I didn't realise the use of sealed Ahamkara grasps double melee = 2x smokebombs for hunter, pretty useful actually!

30 marks per day each from daily crucible and story. 10 marks per week from first three heroic strikes or weekly crucible wins.
