I in the process of buying either a PS4 or XBox One console and am unsure which one to go for.

I suspect he'd mainly be playing Fifa 16 and Minecraft, maybe some Batman Arkham Knights too.

Which would be the better console to go for?

Thanks for any tips, tricks and pointers. :)

PS4. Better exclusives, good free games with PSN, cross platform games tend to run in 1080p, whereas on the xbox one it's 720p. Those are reason enough, but there's more...

I would get Pro Evolution 2016 rather than Fifa 16, it is the best football game for years.

I've got both (and a Wii U) and I'd say get an XB1 if that's what his friends have otherwise get a PS4.

There are some good exclusives on both but the PS4 is more powerful so most games will run slightly better and PS+ is a cheap way to get some decent games each month (the XB1 equivalent isn't as good in my view).

I have both consoles, prefer the Xbox massively. Mainly down to friends having it, games for gold is superb and you get get good games each month, Tomb Raider this month. Microsoft seem to actively bring in more new features too whereas I Turn my Ps4 on and it may as well be a 3 still.

Also this discussion has been done to death. Have a search on here and you'll probably find big discussions which will probably contain a lot of useful help.

PS4 is a better console than the XB1. Simples.
But it does depend what his friends have, he won't want to feel left out.

I have both and I much prefer the PS4. UI is better, games run better on PS4.
But, as a few people have said, go with whichever consoles your friends have.

Wow. The level of delusion here is ridiculous, I can't be bothered listing how wrong it is yet again.

However I will say, anyone saying PS+ is better than Games for Gold needs their head checking.

It's all indie crap on PS.

Fifa and i imagine Minecraft (owned by Microsoft) will continue to have xbox exclusive features as always, so on that basis alone the xbox one is the way to go.

Most important factor is will he be playing online with his buddies? If so he will want the console that his mates have.

I've just sold my Xbox to fund a graphics card upgrade - its just compromise after compromise with it. Even games that are Xbox exclusive (initially at least) like Tomb Raider aren't hitting native res. You will find a minority of vocal supporters on here claiming its better than the PS4 but the reality is the Xbox is under powered and under supported.

Funnily enough I have a a bit of a hefty PC, one that blows the Xbox and PS4 out of the water yet I still use the Xbox as my main gaming device. Easily pleased eh.

I too find myself returning to the Xbox due to the games coming out on it (going to pick up Gears, Forza 6, etc..) and with games I forgot to play (like AC:Black Flag).

Go for the games you want, as in the end of the day, both of the consoles themselves are **** IMO.
