HI there

October last year we launched the amazing LG 34UC97, I am still using mine right now, absolutely gorgeous monitor. We sold nearly 1000 of these stunning screens last year and they were also practically £1000 each.

Today we launch the exact same monitor but without Thunderbolt connectivity, the result is compared to last years launch price of £989.99 we are able to offer the none Thunderbolt version at just £659.99, the screen is identical in every way and at this price is a great deal for such a stunning display.

I must be mad but I'm really tempted by a LG 34UC97C 34" ;)

I don't really play many fast paced games and I 'd love this resolution for productivity.

If only I could get OcUK to open me one up and send me one with zero dead pixels and no backlight bleed??? <pretty please with bells on>

Why I've got one for my work PC. :)

I very much doubt you will get a 34" Ultrawide with no BLB, at least the IPS models. They all use the same LG panel underneath and it's prone to bleeding.

I don't mind IPS glow but lots of BLB would put me right off, I have 3 x Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP the oldest of which must be 8 years old and it has none of them have that much BLB to speak of!

I know i am Biased, but these are truely beautiful screens, both in the way they work and the way they look - either for work or gaming

@Joe! - as we have been discussing in the LG Feedback thread, the issue with BLB from the LG factory has been addressed at a factory level, and for a while now models with an upgraded build have been coming into the UK - we havent had a complaint yet so i hope this eases fears over BLB on LG IPS panels

@ TheMorningStar - honestly, not really - you may still get some dont get me wrong, but with the introduction of things like IPS it does tend to decrease the chances. if you must have 0 dead pixels go for a monitor that is Diacom (i think thats how its spelt) ready - basically medical grade so guarenteed no dead pixels - expensive but peace of mind

@EmmaNeil - you are not wrong :)

Tempting, I can see how these would be great for work. But do they make good gaming monitors? Is a single 980ti enough to drive one at a decent frame rate?

I don't own any of the LG models so I haven't been monitoring that thread, but my apologies and thanks for the information.

How new of a monitor has no BLB? And how can I be sure to get one of these models? I picked up my Dell around 2 months ago, produced in March 2015 with revision A01 for instance.

As Legend has said, the most you're going to get is 60 FPS. My 980Ti (G1 Gaming) at its clock speeds does just well enough to maintain 40+ on GTA:V with absolute max settings and 2x MSAA, it did an entire playthrough of Tomb Raider without dropping below 60 FPS on absolute max settings, and it manages Dirt Rally, Assetto Corsa and F1 2014/2015 just fine.

I'd say you are not going to suffer if at all.

So it's fixed on all of ultra wides then? How did LG manage that when it's been an issue up till now, not only for LG but for every manufacturer using LG UW panels in every size up to this point?

Since I guess he's from LG I would expect him to be talking about the LG branded monitors only. Not for every manufacturer using an LG panel in their monitors however. :)

No, i mean is it fixed for all LG models.

plural.

The point was nobody else has managed to sort it the issue with existing panels, even dell, so i'm skeptical LG has unless they've changed something in the manufacturing process of the panels themselves. In any case, he says LG have fixed it so does that apply to the 34" curved monitors only or is it every UW going forwards? I'm just asking for clarification :)

Define decent? The most you will ever get from a 60Hz monitor is 60FPS.

You've answered your own question there. Mine, albeit not worded very well, was about whether a single 980ti is enough to drive it. And judging by Joe's reply I'd say it probably is. But I'm stuck choosing between going super-wide, or 144hz IPS. 1st world problems.
