**** The Official Google Nexus 6P Thread ****

I remember last year the Note 4 or Nexus 6 was the toughest decision I've had to make when choosing which device to use as a daily... I'm thinking it might be similar again with the Note 5 and 6P. Will certainly be interesting matching them up against each other.

Surprised the 6P is thinner (depth) than the Note 5, but 6mm taller...

Going for the camera and having frequent updates doesn't justify a rush purchase. On reflection I want my S Pen, want to answer calls using the S View window, still not happy with the new design or another charger/lead and really not getting more then I have at present. A few other considerations (battery/warranty) also came into play.

I unconvinced myself in bed then cancelled at midnight and on second review this morning I'm happy that I did.

So the Note 4 stays, a Note 5/Sony Z5 Premium may come or given that it is not yet 12 months old, sit it out and wait for the S7s/Note 6.

That will teach me to order in the middle of a Champions League game. :D

haha, ok, fair enough. Thanks for the thoughts. Nothing major that would change my leaning at the moment, since I'd be upgrading from an aging Galaxy Nexus.

I did a little mockup for my own point of reference, the 6P next to Z3 and how it would fit in my hand:

Not too shabby.

When I go onto the Google store and check order history, all the details are nicely in there but I don't have any trace of a confirmation email. Have checked all my folders including spam, but can't find anything.

Anyone else the same?

I ordered the Aukey one:

You guys seen the Hummingbird video at 240fps? Watch with volume up :vool:

I think people being overly hyped about the new nexus phones have a very very valid reason to be :)

I have the Aukey car charger and it's pretty fast, it put a decent charge on my phone over my 25 min commute to work.

3rd-5th Nov for mine.

Same for my 64gb graphite. Experience says it'll slip but fingers crossed!

As far as the phone goes it isn't perfect from what I've seen but it seems good enough. Much prefer the nexus 6 / general Motorola design. Curved plastic back feels so nice in the hand and they offer some level of water resistance. And the bezzels are stupidly big.
But the screen is amoled, the camera looks very promising, the battery large and stock android are all massive positives.

It really does seem that Google have fixed majority of the issues people usually have with Nexus devices:

  • Camera - based on DxO Mark results
  • Build quality (Nexus 6 the only exception)
  • Stereo front facing speakers (Nexus 6 the exception)
  • Lack of finger print reader

Originally I questioned the placement of the finger print scanner mainly as I couldn't see how NFC payment would work but it looks like the NFC coil is within the hump at the top of the device, therefore you only need to point that part at the terminal and this should leave room for you hand.

I'm personally happy with my Galaxy S6 as that has everything the Nexus P has minus the completely vanilla Android, quick updates and stereo speakers (although the GS6 speaker is pretty good). If I had any other phone, I would see this as a definite upgrade if it wasn't for the size. Using the Material theme on the S6 has made not having vanilla Android a little more bearable, although I do think the MST tech in the Galaxy S6 is a major plus point once Samsung Pay launches here.

I think Google should have had Huawei make both the Nexus P & Nexus X, with the X just being identical but with a smaller screen - a little like Sony's flagship and compact flagship approach.

I never really considered build quality to be an issue with any of the nexus phones, they were always just as good as the competition and in fact probably better in many ways (aside from HTC and possibly Sony phones) i.e. felt solid, had the nice soft touch matte plastic (excluding the nexus 4).

90% certain I will get the 6P, seems like a very nice improvement in every way to the nexus 5. Although it is bigger than what I would like :( Just have to wait and see if there are any niggles/issues with it first. Shame that it isn't shipping until November as well!

This is exactly what I was looking for - flagship, but smaller. The Nexus 5X doesn't seem like a flagship though, so will have to be 6P if I want that. Slowly convincing myself that the bigger size isn't all that much bigger...

Would the Graphite be a finger magnet, or because its now metal it should be ok? thinking of changing to the silver instead lol

No idea, but going by the somewhat average fill-flashed photos taken on the show floor, you can see some smudges but nothing like the finger marks on the glossy and matte backs of previous phones at phone announcement floors.

I imagine under strong lighting you will see more smudges on the Graphite due to how dark and contrasting it is over say the white or Aloominum.
