Winter Thread - 2015/16 Rain or Snow ?

I'd love a decent amount of snow, maybe a day or two off from work. If not, I want at least a freezing winter. The mild ones are just pathetic.

Am I the only person who thinks we've actually had a pretty good summer?

Lots of sunshine, temperatures pleasantly high throughout June/July (including one of the hottest days ever recorded IIRC - I remember popping out to the shop at 9.15PM and it was still 31C) and not really much in the way of sustained rainfall. I'd say we've have a pretty nice summer.

Right now, it's the 30th Septemeber and I'm looking out the window at a beautiful sunny day, with the forecast set to remain that way for the rest of the week. The weekend just gone was stunning.

But I digress. Predicition for winter: wet and miserable, as usual. If we get snow it will only be enough to make everywhere look pretty for an hour, but somehow will still be enough to bring parts of the country to a halt while the Daily Mail/Express froth at the mouth about RECORD BREAKING SNOWFALL OMG.

Well so far the weather for this time of year is certainly different. The temperature on 1st October hit 21 degrees C in Aviemore which is 35 miles from here. We have been in the mid teens all week once it's warmed up. First thing in the morning it's been cold though and we had our first frost of the year yesterday. It is much warmer than usual though and extremely dry. I will find out the details tomorrow when I download the data from my weather station.

It's 49f outside at moment and 21C in lounge - Lit log burner earlier and nice and toasty

Was thinking while enjoying the sunshine at work on Friday - quite often in the past when we've had late September/Octobers with unusually warm sunny afternoons and chillier nights its been followed by stormy Novembers and a reasonably decent winter (snow wise)... one can hope.

I wish people would stop pleading for freezing cold weather and snow. I think you must a little odd wishing for weather that will leave you freezing your knackers off, falling ass over tit and not able to get your car off the drive!

I have proper clothings for cold weather (not bought for UK weather) likewise yaktrax, etc. for grip - not being able to use the car is half the fun.

Not everyone has Edmund Hilary's wardrobe.

Spare a thought for me. My circulation problems mean it can be dangerous for me to go outside in freezing weather and even then, I can't go out anyway without a car. Therefore, I have to become somewhat of a hermit.

Nice mild winter just to make my life easier.

Although it can snow Christmas day/Boxing day because im off but apart from that just nice and mild please. cheers.

Yep, its been like that all week. Was in my shorts yesterday afternoon in the garden. Today it was a little cooler so just in my shirtsleeves. Summer has arrived at last!

What so my boss can phone me up and tell me not to bother coming into work because its all snowed up and I get to have fun in the snow again? Because it hasn't snowed here for several years now.
