Take care out there everyone - it could happen to you....

So, nearly a fortnight ago, my poor mum didn't come home from work.

Minding her own business, driving at the speed limit on her own side of the road, a young lad driving a pickup truck veered across the centre white lines at just the wrong moment and caused a head on impact. She was killed instantly. She was only 56 :(

We don't know much more at the moment, as the police are investigating, but it is looking like (unless some "act of God" is responsible) we're facing dow the barrel of court case involving a prosecution for causing death by dangerous/careless driving. My own personal thoughts are that given the situation and age of the driver, a phone/text message was involved, if not some other in-car distraction. We will see.

So folks, take care. I never thought this would happen to me - but then I suppose nobody in his situation does. If everyone just thinks of this the next time they try to sneak a glance at a text, or delve through the glovebox for a CD and somebody else's life could be saved, then perhaps some good can come of what has been a truly horrendous situation for us.

sorry to hear that.
the world is very cruel sometimes.
you just never know what's around the corner.
i hope you get some closure quickly.
sorry for your loss.

:eek::(

Sorry for your loss Timbob.

People, especially those who are younger and inexperienced, don't appreciate the deadly weapon that a vehicle can be.

OMG, so sorry to hear that.

What a truly awful experience, thoughts and best wishes to you and your loved ones.

My condolences to you :( it certainly makes you realise how vulnerable we are when we get behind the wheel and that our actions can so easily affect the lives of others if we get complacent.

So sorry to hear this. :( I reckon you'll probably be right abiut the lad texting though. Hopefully they'll be able to look through his phone records.

I'm really sorry to hear that.

It's such a second nature to drive to most of us we forget that even the smallest of cars are still close to a tonne of metal that can end a human life in an instant due to bad judgement call or a mistake.

Tragic stuff and there for the grace of God. I had a very close one a few weeks back and only yesterday pulling into Birmingham International station I was confronted by a woman who believed my side of the road to be hers, avoiding me by inches.

Sorry for your loss OP.
