Myself and Nexus devices have history. As I previously posted I look after my devices very well, no chucking them about or sitting on them etc. Despite this, I somehow went through no less than four and perhaps even five(!) Nexus 7 tablets. They just kept simply not turning on, except the one who's screen went static (as in no signal on a tv, not stationary) when charging and never recovered.

People think I'm making it up but you just couldn't. Truth is I love a good Nexus, when they bloody work. :D

Hahaha not doubting you at all, Some people just get a bad roll of the dice.

Hopefully in future they will be kinder to you!

If I decide to try them again I certainly hope so but until mobile connections are better in small market towns and rural villages, I'm going to have to stick with manufacturers who don't assume we all live in London and have constant 4G with a 10GB allowance. I can live with the occasional hiccup but not Google giving me services that their own devices don't have the memory for! :o
 
Bought a new one off eBay for a good price, most impressed with it, although it's a monster!

M'd it straight away!

Glass screen protector I got to go with it is cack though, so any known good ones to look out for?

my wifes did that a few times, cleared the cashe and reset the camera app, never happened again
 
Is android 6 being rolled out ota yet? My wife got an update notification late night, but I've got nothing yet. She's not bothered updating yet as she's paranoid it'll wipe her data. So she's waiting until I do my phone

The ota files were released, but you would have to sideload these through abd. It can be a guessing game for when your phone will get the update pushed.
 
The 6 doesnt fit in my Kenu Airframe, luckily for me they do an Airframe+ which supports wider phones which was news to me, so got one ordered.

Was dissapointed to see that you need to be rooted to use the hidden RGB LED though, was a big fan of Lightflow but dont really want/need to be rooted really
 
I use Wugfresh's NRT to unlock my N6 and put Marshmallow on. That worked fine. I then tried to see if my external SD card would work to play music from. I realised I wasn't rooted so I did that from NRT. I then got the red warning text from https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6185381?p=verified_boot&rd=1.

I then realised I didn't have an unencrypted bootloader so I did a soft-bricked flash stock and unroot, then unlocked again then rooted again and was asked by the N6 if I wanted to say yes to changing the software. I said yes and again the root didn't work. What am I doing wrong? :(:confused:

Don't use the toolkit for starters :)

Grab elementalx from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/orig-development/kernel-elementalx-n6-0-01-alpha-t2954680 & get superSU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133

Flash both in recovery & away you go. All I had to do & I'm still encrypted.
 
Did a full wipe and reinstall of my Nexus 6 using NRT and upgraded to Marshmallow without encryption.

Did have the 23GB error, but after formating the userdata and cache had it back up to just under 60GB.

Flashed a Kernel i found on XDA which is like stock, but allows root, notification LED and gets rid of the modified OS message, Installed SuperSU 2.51 and its working fine.

Only issue i am having is restoring apps back with Titanium, i guess it just needs to be updated, but it just gets stuck on 0% and doesn't move. I can see it has full root rights.

I did do a backup through NRT android backup, but that did about 70% of my apps but not all of them. I guess im waiting on an update for Titanium. The apps it missed i can just reinstall none of the data i care about.

The other thing i was having an issue with is Android wear, not picking up my watch. Gave the watch a factory reset and the app picked it up, wasnt working through bluetooth in settings, just stuck on syncing.

One more thing is Adblockers, Can't seem to compile the host file saying there isn't enough space on the partition. Did say I only had around 17MB left out of 3GB on my system partition, not sure if thats normal. What does everyone else have?

**edit, just changed the host file location to be /data/data/hosts and created a symlink and its working fine now, may still clear some preinstalled google apps to free up some space on /System incase busybox needs it

Keeping my eye on when exposed is available, developer said he has already started work on it i think, so shouldn't be long hopefully.

Do love Now tap, really nice feature. Used to have click to search enabled on chrome where if you highlight text you could search it, but this streamlines that massively.

Battery life seems better. Have hammered it this morning restoring things and watching tv and its only down to 85%. Will have to give it a full days test.

System partition is an issue as most kernels don't have system read/write access. (Which may be causing your 0%).

Elemental x kernel 3.01 works with super su v2.50+ only, doesn't give a corrupt message on boot, and has full system access.

Then you can delete some Google apps such as the foreign keyboards and YouTube. This will make apps like adaway work normally.

OK. So download the beta of elementalx and SuperSU, copy them to phone's internal storage and flash them in recovery from there? :o

Should have system RW access. Have edited files in System OK through root explorer.

Main thing i wanted to restore was old messages and call log. Think i've managed to do that through Titanium by doing it data only per app and not a batch job.

Yep! That is all I did but I didn't use NRT to flash Marshmallow I used the manual way with fastboot commands.

So command prompt

fastboot flash bootloader <file name>

fastboot flash radio <file name>

fastboot flash boot boot.img

fastboot flash system system.img

fastboot flash recovery <filename twrp/cwm>

reboot to recovery

flash elementalx & then supersu.

Cheers. :) A bit more involved that I'd hoped to be honest hence why I loved the NRT program. Did it all for me. I need to install the ADB drivers onto my PC then don't I to get the fastboot commands working? Been a while since I did this through the command line!

If your NRT is working ok with the drivers you can click Launch in the bottom left then Launch CMD Prompt in the bottom left again.

Should be able to enter the manual fastboot commands from there.

The default directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\WugFresh Development\Nexus Root Toolkit\data, so may have to point towards the files you want to flash.

Ah! Nice thinking. Thanks, I'll try that out.

Where's a good place to get all the files such as bootloader, radio etc?
