Hi
Had fibre installed today via plusnet.

Wife did a speed test via Ookla and got 37meg at 2pm. This is on a max 40meg package.
I get home at six and get 5.5meg
At 8.30 tonight I get 2.5. :(

Chatted to plusnet and was told it is fluctuating and can't do anything for 10 days but did advise me not to turn it off. Oops, had already done that.

So, does all this sound about right or is my pessimism right?
Just seems like everyone got home and switched on.

So you know, I believe our village was 'switched on' to fibre today.

I was one of the first in my village to get fibre with plusnet after a month it went from 35 down to 25, I would wait the 10 days and phone up and ask for your line to be reset.

make sure you ask to speak with network team and not silly 1st line people.

As advised don't turn it on/off if you don't need to. It can trigger the line management if you do it too often.

If the speed has collapsed that quickly it could point towards a line fault. Is there any noise on the line?

You'll have been quoted a connection speed when you signed up. If you don't get it they'll be some investigation if you complain about it.

You will probably need to wait for the line to settle. If it's a temporary fault the line management will eventually bring the speed back to what it should be.

It's worth subscribing to Plusnet's forums.

You'll probably find it disconects between midnight and 2am, some people don't even get 80 for a few days until the profiles update.

Firstly thanks all for the quick replies.

No, there is no noise on the line.
The quoted speed was 37meg.
Tbh I just expected that more or less straight out the box.
After finally getting a decent package available I suppose I'm just a little deflated to get something so low (atm).

It was entirely your choice whether you wanted to post a correction that didn't need to be posted.

If you want to run around correcting people for calling a product commonly marketed as fibre by the same words used in all the advertising then go for it, but it's stupid hill to die on and adds nothing to the topics being discussed.

In fact, for people requesting advice on home internet connections it's probably less helpful calling it VDSL2 than fibre, since very few of the providers even reference the technology in use on their websites for the products.

So your problem with that is me? and not the false advertising that is plaguing the market, leaving people to believe it's not what they say it is?

Virgin and the companies before them have been running "fibre" then for 10-15 or more years...

Both misleading people into misleading others... it's not helpful.

Get angry with the false advertisement, rather than someone who's trying to help :p

I have a problem with the advertising but I have an equal issue with totally unnecessary pedantry. Telling people "that's not fibre..." without expanding on your point serves to confuse, not to inform.
