Read Only folder Black dot?

I am trying to make a folder not read only. If I right click/permissions the attributes has a black dot. If I remove it and apply then close down/open the black dot reappears.

It's not a tick so what does it mean. Is this folder read only or not..

It means some of it's subfolders are RO but not the whole folder IIRC.

By RO do you mean root? Are these read only?
