Come on people, you're slow today!

Apple Launches New 4K & 5K iMacs, Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2

Magic Accessories

Automatic Pairing — The new Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 have a new automatic pairing process with Mac using a Lightning to USB cable. Each accessory is also charged via Lightning to USB.

2-Minute Fast Charging — The new Magic accessories each take about 2 hours to reach a full one-month charge via Lightning to USB, but early reviews found the Magic Mouse 2 can fast charge for nine hours of battery life in just two minutes.

Magic Mouse 2's fast charging is useful, since its bottom-facing Lightning port renders it unusable while charging. Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad 2 both have Lightning ports on the rear, meaning both accessories can still be used while charging.

Magic Trackpad 2 Requires Bluetooth 4.0 — Magic accessories connect wirelessly with a Mac via Bluetooth for a secure connection up to 30 feet away. For the Magic Trackpad 2, Apple requires a Bluetooth 4.0-enabled Mac. Magic accessories are also only compatible with Macs running OS X 10.11 or later.

Initial thoughts - new Magic Mouse/Keyboard/Trackpad = great, no more battery swapping.

No Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C = u wot m8? Disappointing. Good to see the 21.5" get the Retina makeover though.

base model iMac still has a crappy HDD in it, poor show apple

massive price bump on the accessories too, the track pad i can understand what with force touch, but the keyboard, come on

I'd imagine they don't sell that many as they usually come bundled with the iMacs unless you're buying a Mac Mini (and even then a lot of people don't buy those or use their pre-existing accessories with them) so they're just doing it because they can. There's no compelling reason to upgrade if you already have them I guess.

spinng HDD in Imac and Mini is like the 16Gb base model iphone.

i.e. designed to offer a lower cost entry point whilst preserving the Average Selling Price (ASP).

It's a bit of an obnoxious price bump on these accessories, and I would usually defend them as they are well built. Also, Apple don't seem to realise but the mouse is terrible to use for long periods of time, will stick with my Logitech mouse, I just wish it supported the gestures.

I use a Puk wrist rest with the magic mouse which makes it a lot more comfortable to use.

I just want Apple to design a bigger mouse with the same sort of ergonomics as the Logitech Performance MX or the MX Master, I have tried so hard to use the Magic Mouse with various different ways of doing so just for the gestures which are amazing, but it's just not comfortable in any way, shape or form for me.

I've read a few places, that it's the way I use a mouse, I use it with my full hand, whereas they're designed to be used with just your fingers or something, so it's not necessarily the products fault.

I'd have to echo those comments, no backlight or TouchID on the peripherals and those prices are daft. £190 for a KB and trackpad? Please.

Also, I'd wager a shiny penny that the battery longevity on those sealed devices won't be a patch on something like the Logitech DiNovo Edge. Time will tell I guess.

Got to be honest Im not one bit bothered about the upgrades, I was going to wait for this lineup but 2 months ago I had no idea when that would be.

I got the mid range 21.5 iMac with upgrades to 16gb ram and 512gb ssd so Im more than happy and I love the screen quality despite it not being retina.

would have needed to pay a lot more for my spec if I also wanted the 4k display as well.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is from the older trackpad that I have and the new version?

thanks:)

The new Magic Trackpad 2 has:

  • Force Touch
  • Wider surface area
  • Doesn't use replaceable batteries - Charges via lightening cable in 2mins charge lasts a month.
