Nvidia plans to lock Game Ready drivers behind GeForce Experience registration

If they wanted to kill off PC Gaming 'paid subscription drivers' is one way to do it.

Too many people already feel PC Gaming is elitist.

No, instead they used it as a marketing ploy "we invented a new Memory architecture :D:D:D:D:D:D:D" aren't we brilliant! and left it at that no doubt knowing their loyal army would peddle that line for them.

The HBM has got nothing to do with wether a water pump makes noise or not. AMD did mess up imo for including an AIO cooler since we have proof in the Fury Pro/Nano that an air cooler would have been just fine. Anyway it's funny how every negative Nvidia thread turns into an AMD bashing thread...

The way GPU's have been increasing in cost over the last few years (way more than inflation) it's only going to get more elitist.

At least with AMD you get more for your money, in the £180-£220 range - compare the 8GB 390 with the 3.5(0.5GB slow speed) 970, no comparison for someone expecting the purchase to last 2 years.

Ooh, an NVIDIA vs AMD argument. Great.

If this is true (which I'm sceptical of, as ever) then it's going to a pain in the neck. I doubt NVIDIA will implement it without a fair few complaints. GFE is fine, but I don't see why I should need to have an account to use it. Nor do I really want any 'news' or other junk with it.

Yeah, no - that wouldn't be acceptable. Or strictly even legal, if you delved into it

I doubt Nvidia would see it the same way, they would use the "Value added" argument and probably get away with it.

Yes but AMD have a branding problem thats going to be very difficult to overcome, even more so with the tribal mentality PC Hardware enthusiasts have.

Not really a big deal but a completely pointless and stupid change that makes a little more work for the majority who don't need the "value added" benefits. Should be entirely optional.

4gb is all that is required isn't it, or so we are told. What are you going to use the 8gb for unless you crosffire as the grunt will be long gone before the memory.

Not a big deal for me tbh. Always use gfe and NVIDIA have had my email address fir years. Not that I ever get much mail from them tbh.

Maybe just a cost saving thing, in that if they are not generally accessible via Windows Update / Main Webpage, they no longer need to be WHQL Certified?

Not sure why Shankly made a thread about this when he has said on many occasions that he will never own Nvidia but oh well and it doesn't bother me at all. I am a big proponent of GFE and use it a lot... In fact, I am live streaming some Elite Dangerous Hazardous Resource Extraction combat right now via GFE :D

I am part of that and I get an occasional email. How many are you getting then?

Edit:

Here is mine

It would be interesting to know what a "Premium Driver" would actually be, hypothetically, given we are making assumptions about this.

Bit of a daft move, if it is true of course, but wont really make a jot of difference to most people. Just the ones who thought Microsoft were evil for the Windows 10 privacy stuff and google/apple are evil because they want your info if you use their devices.

It is the way the world is going and there is nothing we can do about it.
