R9 290 Upgrade?

So I've got a bit of money in the bank atm and I am heavily considering upgrading, either at Christmas, or now as an early present. My plan was originally to get the new Asus PG279Q along with Pascal when it releases.

Currently I'm at the stage of wanting the PG279Q now and just not be able to use G-Sync until Pascal, but now I'm wondering should I just get the monitor now and a 980Ti to go with it? Seeing as it'll probably be baby Pascal (GP104 etc.) that'll come out first and I'd be stuck waiting for papa Pascal to come out. Looking at various benchmarks the 980Ti beats my current card by a good chunk so should be nice upgrade.

Edit: Should probably also add that I'm currently using a Dell P2414H as my monitor (1080p).

Currently looking at the following GPUs

Heard some good things about the X3 Ultra, but can't find anything on the Infin8 Black Edition.

Thoughts?

Probably best to stick with the 290 for now. With the new 14/16nm GPUs coming out in the fairly near future current cards are not a good buy unless you're coming from a card that's old enough to be struggling, which the 290 isn't by any stretch.

True, the 290 isn't really struggling at 1080p, so far the only game that's needed settings turned down is GTAV. But as I'm looking to maybe move to 1440p 144hz (or 1440p ultrawide) soon, would the 290 start struggling a bit?

How about grab one of those cheap GTX780 £170 deal and sell the 290 for around £130 minus £10 for postage to buyer (so essentially at a cost of around £50), and you'd be able to benefit from Gsync with PG279Q right away.

Yes it would be a sidegrade/slight downgrade from the 290, but the 780 should be able to tie you over till Pascal release.

Just a thought.

Only things that are an upgrade would be

390x not a massive inprovement
980 again not a massive improvement
Fury bit bigger improvement but probably not worth it
Fury x or 980ti decent improvement but huge cost.

Not too worried about cost (the monitor isn't exactly going to be cheap after all), the main thing I'm thinking about is the fact that Nvidia are likely to release the "mid-high" chips first with Pascal like they did with Kepler & Maxwell, and I'd be stuck waiting longer for the 1080Ti (or whatever they'll call it) to surface, which would be another 3-6 months after. I.E. 980 released 18/09/14, 980Ti released 1/6/15.

Okay, been talking to friends and they're saying go ahead with it. So question is, which 980Ti? The Inno3D looks promising with it's beefy cooler, but is it worth stretching for an EVGA SC ACX or Gigabyte G1?

G1 is a great clocker by all accounts. But seems to have high instances if coil whine compared to others. Running an msi gaming edition here and have been very pleased with it. Clocks nicely and is very very quiet. Iirc its on this week only deal at £539.99. 30 quid cheaper than what I paid for mine at release.
