Nvidia plans to lock Game Ready drivers behind GeForce Experience registration

I still dont understand how this supposedly benefits consumers.

By the sounds of it, it's going to help those not using GFE to stay away from the 8 unstable versions of the 'game ready' drivers they produce before actually getting a set of drivers you can realistically call game ready. Those who want to play day 1 can take the buggy drivers, those who aren't playing said new game can stick with old actually working drivers.

I mean game ready, when release for a specific game should mean these drivers work well for this game. In Nvidia land game ready means "we rushed out this set for launch that will probably cause lots of bugs and or crashes, but they are out on day 1 thus we are awesome with support".

Does Windows 10 still force automatic updates? I read about the issues it caused but no idea if they changed it, not put Windows 10 on this machine yet. This would keep less stable releases away from forced updates which is potentially the reason behind it.

When I look at the alternative from AMD in Raptr, GFE is a million times better. No adverts, no performance hit and proper recording software that works well for all resolutions. One of my pet hates was how Raptr was so limited in what it could do and quite intrusive and not even developed by AMD.

While I agree with some what you saying I also disagree.
They is no performance hit when using raptr, least in my testing.
If we compare res to res 1080p 60fps raptr is the clear winner in IQ

Raptr disappointment comes when you want to record higher resolution you can't go higher than 1080p I have no idea why.

Apart from that it's come on along way since its release. Far from perfect though and they is much better software out there for the more hardcore recording guys dxtory is still number one.

But yeah again I do agree GFE is a more complete bit of software.

Bit of a daft move, if it is true of course, but wont really make a jot of difference to most people. Just the ones who thought Microsoft were evil for the Windows 10 privacy stuff and google/apple are evil because they want your info if you use their devices.

It is the way the world is going and there is nothing we can do about it.
Nothing you can do about it as a consumer with no chuffs but companies as big and rich as that have the money and power to resist and if they set a good example what would happen? People would flock to them for being responsible and a good example and they'd get more money so they can win whichever way they do it. Excusing poor practices is just excuses usually.

People seem to be worried about giving out their email address.

I'm not sure why, the majority of people in this day and age with a couple of brain cells to rub together should already have an alternative email address for other crappy sign up initiatives that are so commonplace in the world today.

Don't have an issue with it personally but think people should have the choice to install it or not.
I have used the graphics pre-sets for games and found them pretty good - I'd rather not spend hours trying to optimise the settings myself.
Someone mentioned "cluttering up their system" but I don't think GFE has much overhead if any on resources, other than disk space, unless you use some of the other features it provides.
I think Nvidia would use any email address responsibly personally, you're not going to receive marketing unless you indicate you want it, and doubt the details will be sold on.

Wow people actually defending this, ROFL.

How long until they sue guru for rehosting and not allowing them to harvest emails for their data mining money grubbing.

Didn't you have to give an email address to register here? I find it hilarious that people are so up in arms about giving out an email addy. I personally use 3 email addresses and 2 of those are pretty much spam attractors.

Lol thread :D

As Gregster and others have said, just use an alternate email.

I've had one for about twenty years for just such uses.

You literally can't defend this, it's just dumb. Gregster you're unbelievable sometimes.

There's a difference between signing up to a forum which requires an email for obvious reasons and getting the latest driver so you're games work correctly. The latter doesn't actually need an email it's just forced on you because they're a greedy out of touch business who can do what they want because they know shills like you will run to their defence.

Its not the email the email is perfectly fine.. Its the fact they now trying to force you to install software to install driver.. You should never be forced to install anything.
GFE should remain optional, not every user wants it.

This is another attempt at locking down the PC from Nvidia. If they had there own way they would jump at it. I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia released its own Operating System. lol

90% use GFE apparently, so 10% who don't want it will have to manually download the newest drivers when they are out. If there is a backlash, I am sure they will re-evaluate.

As for the "This is another attempt at locking down the PC from Nvidia" that just makes no sense.
