Skoda

I'm sold on the DSG after my test drive last night and I'm swayed towards the dirty diesel TBH.

Waiting for prices from the dealer and but looking at 17% off RRP but then I have 3k of options on there too. My trade in might be the sticking point as values have been all over the place.

Test drive the petrol regardless, it'll at the very least cement your decision to get the diesel.

I'm becoming tempted by the VRS estate, and a few are starting to fall into my price category. Anything I should be wary of? Particular things to look out for when viewing/test driving?

Based on mk5 golf platform so same issues:

Check all electrics work.
Check for fault codes
door locking modules (deadlocks will fail and will then either not deadlock or worse, lock and stay locked. New modules are not expensive - will show as a fault code
Knocking from the front over bumps and braking could be a front strut, arb or mounts but could also be the steering rack. If it's the rack you're looking at over £1k to replace as it's not repairable and the new one has to be coded to the car with the correct maps.
Leaking inner door seals front and rear
front sill / arch corrosion behind front wheels (stonechip damage)
TFSI specific:
blocked PCV system - replace with latest version
failed diverter valve - as above
Fuel pump camshaft lobe wear - £10 part to replace will sort.
Failed coil packs

That seems very cheap - cheap enough to ring alarm bells IMO

It's a reasonably well specced estate in the best colour with sensible mileage from a dealer, it should be well above 4k

Likely, same for all the VAG brands. Skoda do tend to be a couple of years behind VW and Audi in getting the latest engines.

Fair point. Even if VAG have been optimising for the tests via software, I'd wager other manufacturers have also.

I've got a Euro 3 NOx belching lung killer ... and proud of it. ;)

That's quite a list, a little off putting!

Not really, these are just the things to check for and consider whether the car is cheap enough to sort if it has any of these issues.

Some is also pot luck, had my mk5 R32 for 3 years, never missed a beat and required nothing but servicing even though heavily modified, nothing failed or broke not even any DSG issues......
but then the rack failed a week after ordering a new octavia so had to replace to be able to sell as the knocking was terrible.

Picked up my vRS yesterday.

Very happy with it, first ever new car so have irrational fear of other road users and car parks !

Tested both and still fancy the diesel. Coupled with the DSG it made for an effortless drive.

In negotiations with the dealer. So far been offered 3000k off list for cash or 2300 with a 0% PCP deal. Will be pushing for some more off and or 3 years servicing. Does that sound about right with what other have been offered?

The carwow quotes came it at much less discount but a little more than the broadspeed one.

I got my vRS back in 2011, however about a week after order I was given a provisional build week/date and then if that changed the dealership contacted me. I had the date pushed back twice, but in the end arrived only a week after my initial provisional date.

I was told "about 12 weeks" when I ordered and have heard nothing since. I'll drop the garage an email.

Yeah I would. My garage emailed weekly even if there was no change. Great service from them to be honest.

12 weeks was their initial advice but the car arrived about 2 weeks early.
