Is piracy dying?

Streaming covers most of my needs and I buy music legally. The only time I use an alternative source is when they won't pull their thumb out and take eons to release stuff on bluray or streaming! Then I'll watch from a hooky source and buy the box set when it comes out.

I seriously don't get the delays from cinema or TV to streaming/box set these days. GoT is a prime example.

From a personal point of view, my viewing sources are all legal now. The price is actually reasonable considering services such as Amazon Prime (where you also get shipping and music).

With regards to movie rental, I watched Avengers 2 rented the other day. Cost me £4.50 in HD for a 6 month old film.

I didn't have to faff looking for the Bluray copy, I didn't have to resell the Bluray copy once I was done, I didn't have to deal with some poor staff at a rental store, I didn't risk downloading malware and I got four people watching the film during the 48 hours.

Even if it was just the original two (me and missus) who watched it it was miles cheaper then cinema plus fuel plus parking.

And then on top of that I can pause and rewind as much as I want.

For me now, I'm in a situation where it seems appropriate to get media legally.

I think because of the rise in good value music streaming services, piracy for music is not as attractive as it once was.

In regards to video streaming, I don't think the current offerings quite cut it. Netflix has a decent variety of television series, but they often lag behind that of the US and so people may resort to pirating episodes. In regards to films, I haven't found any of the online paid streaming services very good.

Piracy has change for myself and I didn't even notice it happen.

Games - became easier and reasonably priced to buy on Steam/CD key sites/Sales etc.
Music - Free trials on Spotify and Google music turned into subscriptions.
TV and Movies - The gap between air dates and release dates decreased and with subscriptions to Amazon and Netflix with Chromecast and Fire stick have made consuming media far too easy compared to the Argghhh! alternative.

I think now that the music/film/tv industry is finally cottoning on to this new-fangled internet lark, it's getting better, but I doubt piracy will ever die.

Piracy is evolving and most now stream instead of download with more and more people using a box and a small Android figure ;)

yes, it does indeed seem like we are getting there!

has taken a few years, but there is progress being made.

the price has come down to a reasonable amount and the method of obtaining it is slick and getting better all the time.

i honestly don't feel the need to pirate anymore.

you would honestly have to be very, very cheap to pirate any large amount anymore.

I do it for some games as a demo, if I like the game I'll buy it (so I can play online etc)

Too many times I've been stung into buying a game on steam or origin, hating it, but being unable to do anything about it, effectively just whizzing money away.

Do Steam not do that 2 hour refund now?

a lot more streaming services available at decent costs and some dodgy ones free so not that many people download movies tv shows any more

I wouldn't have a clue where to get stuff from these days, i used to use newsgroups, not sure if they even exist anymore, i don't download much these days and if i do, i struggle to find a good copy of say, the latest series of big bang theory. I just think as i'm getting older i'm not keeping up with the latest trends when it comes to stuff like this.

Piracy funds terrorism and paedophiles so it makes sense it's on the way out now that Bin Laden and Jimmy Savile are dead.

TV and films still going strong, games and general software less so.

I guess it's down to the former not running the risk of viruses and the like.
