Which executive estate?

Hi guys

I currently have a c.14 year old E46 330i which has a few niggles, so I've decided it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking to buy an executive estate car and would like some suggestions on which cars I should look at for c.£25k. Ideally I'd like the car to be at least as quick as my 330i.

I'm not too concerned about economy, but I expect most of the cars in this class are diesels. I only do around 12k miles pa currently with an 18 mile round trip to work along a 50 limit country road. Is this likely to cause any issues with DPFs? I do a fair bit of driving most weekends, so this may help with any DPF issues.

Cars I've thought of so far are BMW 5 Series (F11), Audi A6 and Mercedes E Class. Hoping to try out each of these at the weekend.

If you have any opinions on which options to go for on any cars mentioned too that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you'll better a 530D or 535D Touring, though an A6 with a good engine and 4WD would be an ok wagon too I suspect.

535i if you can find one, which you can't. So 530d or 535d :)

The Audi is a nice car, but as Fox says the multitronic isn't great. Try one though and you might like it.
Either way, the F11 is the superior car.

As per all the above, for the money I can't see past the 5 series. The E class is too old now (though nice if spending less) and I'm not sure you'd find an a6 combo you'd be happy with - though it's a good car

Random thought: CLS Shooting Brake?

CLS 350CDI will be at the top end of your budget if you're willing to stretch a little.

The 5 GT represents very good VFM if you don't mind the looks. Rides better too due to the longer wheelbase.

The GT would be my choice, cheaper than 5 Tourings, more legroom in the back and nearly as much space in the boot.
Indeedy. Boot space suffers due to the sloping rear hatch, but there's more space than the Touring with the seats down. I think they're great, just a little cumbersome around narrow streets and tight multi-storeys.

Hi all

Apologies for the delayed response. Looks like the 530D is the one to go for then!

Will have a look in the 530D thread.

Cheers.

Vauxhall insignia estate 4x4 ? i looked at one the other day and it has a powered boot. Opens and closes from a button, never seen anything like it. Amazing. So useful. Hope it catches on.
