Some of you are probably aware that I don't support the death penalty for many reasons, but I can appreciate that there is a sliding scale of crimes and are some that could much more easily be considered worthy of the death sentence.

If you agree that any murdered should be killed, then yeah this guy deserves the death penalty. However, his crimes aren't really that abhorrent when you consider that the US have serial killers and rapists and paedophiles still alive without death sentences (consecutive life sentences instead or just being held on death row until they shift off the mortal coil).

I wonder if this is a reaction to something else, as I really can't see on the face of it why this guy has been sentenced in this way. He is entitled to his racist beliefs, and they seem to be what he's actually been sentenced on as opposed to the murders he committed.

A judge has sentenced a white supremacist to death for the killing of three people at two Jewish centres.

It's all in the 1st line of the article as to why he's receiving the death penalty.
 
I'm not sure of the validity of your statement that he's only been sentenced on his beliefs, when the following is stated in the news piece:

He was convicted of one count of capital murder, three counts of attempted murder, and assault and weapons charges.

I can't see why your that bothered, America is a big complex country with each state having its own laws.
We had the death penalty not so long ago for lesser crimes.
 
I support the death penalty, and given that he committed multiple homicides, I'd say he needs to swing. But as you say, there are people who have committed far more heinous crimes who won't get the death penalty.

I suspect the racial motive of this crime is why he got the death penalty. Although he'll probably not actually be executed given his age and the drawn out appeal process.
 
Probably a lot of plea bargains in other cases also. Give an example of other crimes, also remember not all states have the DP.
 
The death penalty should only be used when it is clear cut 100% certain the perp did the crimes of Murder, Torture, Rape and kidnapping.

Once sentenced no appeal and they should be dispatched via a automatic firing squad then fed to the pigs, within 6hrs.

Wonder how many people will be against the death penalty in general but in favour of it in this case because he's a racist.

People on death row have poor representation - often black people with poorly paid over worked public defenders. though in this instance a nutcase with no lawyer.

If you get a decent lawyer you ought to be able to get away from the death penalty in a standard murder case.

I would say that it's probably down to the White supremacist part.

Most people in death row might be murders or rapists, because they are unhinged in some way, but are probably not the type to go out to others spreading racist remarks.

I'm sure he's also the type of guy that would sit in court showing no signs or remorse and generally not giving a **** because he believes he is correct.

The one's that do go on a spree because of race issues normally end up dead before being arrested.

Agreed. Justice is very much dependent on income in America. It's horrifying that the current legal aid cuts in this country are taking us down a similar path.

Having said that, representing yourself in any country is a surefire way to get the worst possible personal outcome.
