Dare I ask?

Fallout 4 plays great on ps4. Can't say I've had any of the framerate issues aa few people are experiencing.

Basically if you want 60fps go PC. If you're happy with 30 go console.

I PC game primarily because I'd never get the main telly with wife and 2 daughters in the house ... but also, is there the equivalent of steam with their lovely sales ? I'm far too ***** to spring 40 quid (and more) on a new release when I know its going to be half the price in less than a year.

That said, I don't think there is a definitive "right" answer for everyone. Red Dead Redemption nearly had me buying a console just to play it.

So far everyone is solidifying my thoughts more and more. Thank you for all of your points!

No one has really given opinions on second hand components which I guess could be a deciding factor?

Pc, but thats mainly down to my preference of the keyboard and mouse over a controller.

Xbox one has been confirmed to be getting mods just like the pc.

I have heard mixed things about fo4 on consoles. Some say it runs fine, 30 fps. Others say it can really chug and is very noticible.

Any mod Is going to break the console version, so this will be hilarious.

I think Bethesda will vet them, it would be impossible otherwise.

I use my xbox controller on the PC as I was used to the console controller in Fallout 3. You get the familarity of the controller but the graphics boost of the PC. Win win :D

Second hand route is a good idea, shame you don't meet the requirements for the Members Market.

Going back to your OP it depends what you ultimately want, if you want to sit back on a sofa with your TV and controller it would be much more easier to grab a console and away you go, I do enjoy my Xbox 360 and Xbox One still and would happily game on it.

But being a Bethesda fan (Elder Scrolls and Fallout) you can mod the hell out of them which appeal to me and a reason why I have it on PC.

If you're happy to invest some money into a PC with a nice desk you'll have a great time just as much as a console, it's whatever suits you in the long run.

PC for mods. Recent times have definitely bridged the gap between PC and console with things like PC streaming, wireless controllers with native support.

There is no reason you cant treat a PC like a console when you want to and use it as a PC when you dont.

Comes down to personal preference I'd say.

FPS type games I have to play on PC - Can't do without Mouse and Keyboard (Destiny being the exception to this rule but its not available on PC).

Anything requiring a controller - its a no brainer really - Get the console. I do love being able to just kick back on the sofa without headphones playing on the big screen instead of hunched over the PC - but again it comes down to the games you want to play.

Your lucky - your only thinking about one game - if that's all that matter make your decision based on that - tbh I think (I know I shouldn't say this!) but a Xbone will probably fit what your after better and be a heck of a lot cheaper than building a new PC.

Either way gl and hf!

Played Fallout 4 for 2 hours...what a waste of my time!

When you have fallen victim are you just following the hype or have you actually played the game?

Exactly the same here. Its got nothing 3 had which made it interesting. All the quests I came across were just 'run here, kill these guys, run back' or fetch for little reward. The main character I felt had no personality and that's not helped by the over simplification of the speech system. Also with no way to recover the dog/suit its a right pain if you have to abandon either for whatever reason (dog getting shot up/suit out of power) as you have to go back a find it again where ever it is.

Tbh I wasn't a huge fan of 3 but thought it was a decent game. 4 just felt a bit pointless to me. Nothings been improved and much has been lost, and the pipboy menu still sucks.

See that's another question, if I go down the PC route am I going to be inclined to purchase a desk to play using a keyboard and mouse down the line? Which would possibly mean a whole room renovation...

Not at all, you can always build a mATX PC in small cube case and plonk it anywhere like I do.. Wireless mouse and keyboard / controller plugged into TV voila! You can use a PC just like a console... You don't need a desk.when I'm in bed I just plug into bedroom TV and get on with it. Plus my mouse works great on my bed sheets :D

I did have Xbox one but it never got used so sold it in the end much prefer PCs as its "all in one" if you will.

If your a casual gamer then I would definitely recommend a console.

I really only use my pc to play exclusive games for pc and enjoy playing console more for your general multi platform games.
