**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

New firmware out. Not too sure what it's done so far, but I've noticed my battery drivers have been updated from the 2006/2013 ones to 2015 ones.

The following updates will be listed as “System Firmware Update – 11/18/2015” within the Windows Update History.

•Surface UEFI update (v103.873.768.0) improves system stability.
•Surface Management Engine update (v1.0.0.1183) provides touch optimizations.
•Precise Touch Device driver update (v1.1.0.217) provides touch optimizations.
•Management Engine Interface driver update (v11.0.0.1172) provides touch optimizations.
•Surface Touch Servicing ML driver update (v1.0.36.1) provides touch optimizations.
•Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver update (v1.2.0.2) ensures correct Surface driver is installed.

Note When Surface updates are provided via the Windows Update service, they are delivered in stages to Surface customers. As a result, not every Surface will receive the update at the same time, but the update will be delivered to all devices. If you have not received the update then please manually check Windows Update later.

*In addition, please check out the Surface Pro 4 update history page for more details on all previous updates.

Having trouble downloading or installing from Windows Update? Please try to manually download and install the update - for instructions see https://www.microsoft.com/surface/e...ntenance/install-software-updates-for-surface.

Just had to spend about 10 minutes faffing about getting my SP4 to turn on after it wouldn't wake from sleep. I had a firmware update 2 days ago, would it be the one above? Or another. Fingers crossed it wasn't and I'm due a fix.

A few folks in the US have started getting their Core-i7 models, benchmarks seem to show the expected increase in graphics performance over the Core-i5 model.

They are also mentioning that it seems to run a bit warmer than the i5 though, so will need to see over the next few days if this means throttling of performance and/or a noticeable difference in battery life.

Dear oh dear, have to say I'm becoming quite disappointed with my SP4. I really want to like it (and do in some ways) but....

Problems so far include:-

* Type cover stops working and needs removing and refitting. Happens after almost every sleep / cold boot.

* After resuming from sleep the wifi sometimes gets "intermittent connection" and needs switching off and on again.

* The touch screen has stopped working twice and needed rebooting.

* ditto the Gfx driver "needed to be recovered" twice.

* This morning after being shutdown overnight it crashed when booting - something about mrvpci8897.sys

I also wish there was a way of adjusting touchpad sensitivity as I'm also finding it way too sensitive so I keep rescaling or multi selecting everything on the desktop when I just wanted to move the mouse pointer!

I've disabled fast start up and that seems to have helped with waking up.

Sometimes if I plug in the charger or the typecover the touchscreen stops working, which then requires a restart. Can't figure out the exact cause.

Chrome still crashes every now and then, not sure if the fault is on Windows side or Chrome itself. I would try Firefox but the UI when using the SP4 as tablet mode is too small :p. Edge is... not ready to use yet.

Delivery man just rang the doorbell there and was greeted with a lovely new Surface Pro4 i5/8gb/256GB. First impressions, it's feels small. I just got the iPad Pro last week (for testing purposes) and been using that all week. This feels small in comparison. I think it's more portable but for home usage I think the iPad Pro would win for consumption purposes. Will update as I get more use out of it.

The screen is fab tho.

I don't think I'd feel bad whipping out the surface pro in public but the iPad Pro is massive and you feel like a bit of plonker with it out.

edit: I love the eta to full charge in the battery meter, nice touch.

I'm quite tempted by a surface pro 4 to replace my ageing Dell M101Z laptop but there's a worrying amount of users on reddit and the surfaceforums reporting similar issues, bugs and glitches which is putting me off?

I don't really want to spend £800 on something if it isn't going to work reliably.

Had mine nearly a week, only had issues with the display driver crashing from what I can remember.

In its defence when it's up and running it's generally fine; I love the screen and everything opens and runs very responsively.

But even having applied the 11/18/2015 firmware this afternoon I've still had to remove and reattach the type cover to bring it back to life after resuming from sleep again.

It's that sort of thing that surprised me as I assumed that being Microsoft and the 4th generation surface by now simple things like that should have been sorted long ago.

That's the thing. I know Windows 10 is relatively new but you'd think given MS designed the hardware and it runs on an OS they created several decades ago it should be as reliable as it gets? Especially since, like you say, it's now in its fourth iteration.

I'll wait until I can have a play with it in my local store before deciding I think.

It sounds as if UK pre-orders that got in on day 1 for the i7 models and were seeing a shipping date of the 20th of November were sent an email telling them they were delayed until the 10th of December with a £50 Microsoft voucher for the inconvenience.

Has anyone managed to confirm if Microsoft is offering Microsoft Complete for the Surface Pro 4 in the UK? It wasn't available when I first pre-ordered a few weeks ago.
