A friend who has been through the same motions as me has bought a new Apple TV and bought the Plex app for it, and reports zero issues streaming ultra-high res content over wi-fi of all things! I'm wondering if the new Apple TV has some sort of reasoning behind why this might be the case. If it does, I'm considering finding another use for the raspberry pi and getting an Apple TV instead.
Any thoughts?

I thought that the apple TV cannot do UHD (I assume by that you mean 4K) since it only as an HDMI output![]()

But the ATV 4 HDMI max display settings are only 1080 @ 50/60P (like ATV 3) aren't they?
Or has the ATV 4 got a 4K 24Hz setting?
It hasn't got that as a setting, but can't see why it couldn't be added in a future update.
Thanks for that. You are the first person I have seen that has said that for ATV4.
Do you know whether the Roku 4 has a 24Hz setting for 1080P?

I'm still considering buying it though. The Amazon Fire does seem pretty darn good especially price considering. But the apple TV has all that good apple eco system stuff which I do enjoy. I'm still undecided really.
iPlayer is now on the AppStore
I've offloaded two of my 3 atv's, the FireTV 4k runs Plex, Kodi and a lot more without the need to mess about. Despite having bought into apple's ecosystem for laptop/desktop/mobile/tablet the atv just doesn't appeal to me now.
I came in to ask what is the best place/price to get a ATV3 to replace my Roku 3, now i am not so sure now. Fire TV4k is half the price.
All I can say is for me a FireTV makes a lot more sense. It's back down to £65 with potentially another £10 off a £50 spend and cash back from a well known department store who give 2 years warranty. It runs Kodi amazingly well, has various catch up services and has Plex etc.
