The Autumn Spending Review

Of course they're ideologically driven.

1. Austerity is not the only solution. In fact, several respected economists assert that austerity is the worst way to resolve the situation. Britain is currently doing worse than other modern countries which didn't adopt such harsh austerity policies.

2. The Conservatives are staunch advocates of privatisation and neo-liberalism; they want the smallest state they can manage, whilst selling off the state's assets to benefit themselves or people they know. They run in circles of corporate interests and privilege. It's self interest.

It's both.
Some section are big blotted and inefficient, unfortunately they'll remain that way just with less money. They wont have the change that is actually needed.

While other areas that need spending wont get it.

So, are these changes idealogical driven or what the nation needs?

But! Stuff like this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34864328 doesn't happen without those Cuts in Govt. Public Spending, also, think of the Foreign Aid, Immigration, housing Refugees, funding Wars and stopping Terrorlolism through snooping on EVERYONE, not to mention bailing out Banks, HS2, Pointless Inquiries every other Month etc. etc.

Remember, we're all in this together!

It's complete nonsense that the UK has wasted millions and millions chartering planes for official travel when virtually every other country in the world has dedicated aircraft for this purpose. Even the Cambodian head of state doesn't pitch up on a rented holiday jet. The German's have two widebody aircraft for this purpose, our well overdue decision to finally get just one is hardly extravagant.

It's not even a dedicated plane for the head of state - it's an RAF refuelling aircraft which retains the capability to be used as such.

!!!! That isn't what Dave keeps telling us! ¬¬

Tories gonna Tory!

More poor/sick people to die and the rich get richer, is basically what's happening. Hopefully the sheeple will wake up to the rot in British politics and take to the streets to oust the broken system

If we need more cuts are certain papers going to stop parroting this idea about Osborne being economically competent?

Nobody can explain why he's targeting a surplus, other than it being the only way that he manages to maintain an erection now he hasn't got Thatcher around to look at.

Because labour did a great job of sorting that one out didn't they... In fact, they're the morons who've put us in such a state. Tories aren't much better, but either way I've not voted as there's not much point voting for a 2-headed dragon. If Miliband won the election we'd be even worse off, that's for sure.

Agreeing wholeheartedly that British politics is severely broken at the moment though. We need to adopt things, which will never happen, such as doing what the Icelandics and Portuguese have done which is start by putting those who line their own pockets behind bars (though I'd imagine we'd be left with about 10 MP's if that went ahead, but this is mainly aimed at the bankers). We need to resolve our taxing policies on the huge corporations who effectively mug the entire country of input to the treasury; they are without doubt the greatest cause of our budgeting issues.

Derp.

Actually, no they're not. That's a pernicious lie peddled by the Tories so much so that people think it's fact.

As I said, 2-headed dragon. They're both as dreadful as each other. From the information I read from multiple sources years ago I gained my own opinion.

I'm always happy to learn and will admit I'm wrong when proven so, so if you could find me some reading to do - I'm having a quiet night, I'm bloody tired haha - that'd be appreciated, Nix.

Labour caused a sub-prime mortgage crisis in the US? They were more powerful than I thought.

Labour continued to borrow more and more, past our means, whilst allowing people to continuously borrow beyond their means which led to a pretty notable collapse.

EDIT: Didn't particularly help how they made it a piece of **** for people to claim benefits which has now come to shoot a lot of people in the foot due to the process which has had to be implemented by the Tories.

Labour's economic policies regarding banking regulation had support from both sides of the house.

Running a government surplus large enough to nationalise investment banks on the off chance that it's required would have been foolish. There's no such thing as "past our means" - the fact we were still able to borrow the funds and service the repayments means it was within our means.

Labour did a lot wrong, but they didn't cause a recession. The Tories love to trot out the line that government can tank an economy which is intrinsically linked to global conditions. But when asked to explain why Osborne misses his own self-made targets then suddenly the economy is an unwieldy beast that is hard to tame.

Yes they did, they did an absolutely terrible job with the economy. They made so many non jobs in the public sector, to fudge employment numbers. Where we were in the boom, we should have been building infrastructure rather than non jobs.
No one things they caused the crash. They did however put us in a silly position and wasted so much money for nothing.

Tories aren't good either, however many of us think they do a slightly better job than labour.

The trouble is we go from one extreme to the other. Where each party systematically undoes the good of the other party. We need a better average. Unfortunately we had that last parliament and they got undeservedly murdered in the elections for actually doing what was beat for the country. Rather than just being uncooperative.

I'm honestly intrigued as to how much better people think we would have been if a Tory government had been running things in the decade building up to 2008. What should a government working in the systems we had at the time have done to ensure we didn't end up in the crap?

I mean you say loads of people were in non-jobs, but at least they were in jobs, putting money back into the economy. I'm not sure higher unemployment figures but less government spending would have been a better way of going into all this.
