ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

The chinese can ;)

Nope.

If they tried a feet on ground, the problem then becomes the impact of the single child rule. Unless the war goes on for 16+ years.. The continued reduction of people in the population means the population will not recover fast enough to maintain the war :D

who said anything about setting a foot, we're talking about funding the war not fighting

what's Russia going to do invade turkey? that means declaring war on NATO.

it will be swept aside just like every USA-UK friendly fire incident.

does nato even come to defend turkey if it's proved the russian jet was in syria airspace?

turkey would be the aggressor, nato is a defence pact?

Don't sweat it guys. I've put a plant in a fridge so Wall E can find it and give it to EVA and save the human species in a few hundred years time.

Turkey will simply open up the borders and attempt to pressure NATO in helping.

I think that Turkey will simply take the money for the refugee camps that the EU members will give.. buy lots of arms and then attempt to crush the Kurds, then attempt to force the refugees to repatriate Syria again.

"The jet is reported to be a Russian Su-24 flown by a pair of Russian pilots, with one believed to have been captured by Syrian rebels from the Alweya Al-Ashar (Brigade of the 10th) which consists of Turkmen with strong links to Turkey."

If that is the case then this be will leverage and not seen as good by NATO.

I can't see there ever being a proper "world war 3" - given the amount of munitions in the world (particularly those of a nuclear persuasion) it's more likely to be "Armageddon 1"

Have to agree with you there. Can't help but be worried about the potentially horrifying turn of events the activities in this region could trigger. All these keyboard commanders on the net talking about "dishing out a bloody nose to the ruskies" in the style of General Melchett from Blackadder drive me crazy. It's as if people believe a major global conflict won't touch them and they'll sit at home making memes about it on Internet forums.

If Russia has shared IFF codes with Turkey to prevent such things happening, the Turkish ambassador in Moscow will need the help of a deity to save him from Putin's wrath.

Not true, IFF can only identify a "friend" anything else is not classed as foe, it's more a case of unknown/could be friend but we're not sure.
