I'd hardly call paying almost double for 20fps a bargain. Surely you are joking.
He is being sacartstic!

I did tons of testing on a 290X, a 970 and a Titan X and for 1080P, I wouldn't have had a clue what was what in the time of gaming, as they all played smooth and trouble free. Up the scale to 1440P and the 290X and 970 were still good but the occasional game needed settings turned down but the Titan X coped nicely.
So for 1080P, a 970 or 980 or 290/390/X is an ideal card and from my own in-depth testing, it would feel like a waste if I was to buy a 980Ti for 1080P personally but like you say, it is down to the OP what he does with his money and we can only give advice on what we know and have done ourselves.
So what would you use @1080p with max settings for -
Watch Dogs
GTA V
Attila Total War
The Witcher 3
Shadows of Mordor Middle Earth
Does the OP want max settings? I have looked at this thread and I see he is interested in grabbing a 1440P monitor, which I would say go G-Sync if he is going that way but nothing about max settings?
This isn't about what I would do Kaap, it is about what the OP wants, so best stick to asking him those max settings questions.
hi im in 2 minds about upgrading from my msi gtx9804g to the newer msi gtx980 ti .the money is not the problem but would welcome peoples comments as to whether its a good idea ty.
You are right it is about what the OP wants.
All I am doing is telling the OP which the better card is if money is not a problem.
It is up to the OP to make up his own mind if it is worth it or not. All I can do is say what the performance difference is.
So what would you use @1080p with max settings for -
Watch Dogs

Correct and your opinion is as valid as everyone else's but picking others up on what they think is wrong and let them have their say bud![]()
Lets look at it on a basic level. This is from me using a 1440p resolution.
Watchdogs - I initially set everything to highest level. On indoor sections and cutscenes it ran brilliant. Looked brilliant. Then on outdoor sections with pileups and lots going on, it slowed down. I dropped some settings without losing much fidelity and the game was all good again.
GTA V - I have everything on pretty much top settings. It benches at a pretty constant 60-65fps. My friends see it running and are amazed by it compared to their console version. The framerate and detail impresses everyone.
Total War - Not played or ran it, friend says its pretty CPU dependent but I couldnt say.
The Witcher 3 - I max everything and decided that Hairworks wasnt really giving me enough of an erection to worry about. So I just settled for the game running great and everyone being pretty amazed by it in action at 1440p.
Shadows of Mordor - Ultra textures and all that crap. Firstly the ultra textures dont look much different. Secondly the game is shallow, repetitive, bland, and makes Assassins Creed seem like Final Fantasy 7. How does it run? I chucked an Xbox controller in, played a few hours. Game looked great, didnt notice any issues. got BORED.
You can argue all you want but the fact of the matter is spending £200 more to gain some FPS in games that are about a getting a bit tired now is pretty crazy.
Its just simply not a good investment.
To the OP...
"Is it worth it?"
NO.
I think even the OP knows which is the better card. Its kinda obvious. I mean, one has Titanium in its name, its gotta be better right!?
Fact of the matter is that the OP would need to sell his 980 then stump around £200 to achieve this upgrade. Its an upgrade that wouldn't blow him away, You can see in the video I linked the difference in framerate is about 20fps across most games.
The post is asking if its a good investment or not, so you are allowed to tell the OP whether or not it is. He kinda asked !
So Kaapstad.. is it a good investment spending £200 to get 20fps average on big games?
You obviously have a problem with the 980 Ti lol.
As to what the OP thinks that is up to him.
As to what you or anyone else thinks you are free to post as much as you like.
The one thing that won't change is the 980 Ti is the faster card.
So you cant answer a simple question?
You make a graphics card seem almost human the way you defend them.
Oh ok, so you have basically just come to tell him what he already knew. The 980ti is faster. Very insightful.
Its possible to tell someone if something is good value, you don't have to always know a person's feelings to make your opinion.
If I spent 200 quid on a Mars bar you would say it's bad value, just because I bloody love Mars bars doesn't mean a £200 on one is a good investment.
Ok we could go around in circles on this.
The 980ti is an epic card. I nearly bought one myself but held back and saved the money. Maybe that makes me come across biased.
I showed a video that shows the 980ti getting 90fps in games where a 980 got around 70fps, or 120fps where the 980 got 100fps.
Kaaps bias may come from his ownership of multiple high end cards, hes financially in a different place to many of us so sees things a bit different to me.
