Still got cooling problems

I've since added an X41 which has helped but I was averaging very high temperatures and assumed the CPU was toast.

Changed the 5800 CPU this morning, done a full clean on the new one, cleaned old paste off the Kraken, reapplied a layer to the CPU all over and this is what we're looking like now while I type this... Not right surely? No overclocking applied at all.

AMD APUs pretty much always run warm, if you apply some serious load what temperatures are you seeing?

Also, I'm not sure if you can on your motherboard or already have, but disabling the onboard graphics may help if you are not using it and you want lower temperatures.

Cheers. Thought I had the onboard graphics disabled, but it was set to auto. Disabled now.
 
A good mil or two all over.

That's way too much. If you spread it, it should be virtually translucent. You're only trying to fill the tiny gaps between two flat(ish) surfaces, because the paste should be better than air. It's only because you can't get the perfect metal-to-metal contact between the two surfaces that you use paste at all.

Ideally, you should use the newer method where you put a pea-sized ball of paste in the centre of the CPU and let the pressure of screwing down the heatsink spread it evenly out. This way you won't get air bubbles.

Yeah, ok, I'll give that a try.

That was how the Kraken came though, so that you just screwed it on with the paste in place as standard, but that wasn't exactly keeping it cooler.

Maybe I should take some snaps of the inside and post them. Maybe I'm lacking a fan or two but I seriously doubt it. I can't believe having purchased an X41 I'm still having cooling issues.

How is the fan set on the radiator? (exhaust or intake)

You could add a second fan for push/pull, but will probably only lower temps by a couple of degrees and make it louder.

If you still need your bios settings, make a thread here and they should help you out.
 
No luck on the OC settings but not fussed right now. I have them somewhere in various forms, need to sort the cooling first though. I'll try and take pictures.
 
Yes, fan is correct.

If you're still having problems, would recommend removing the pump again, to check that the paste has not extended right up to the edge/s of the CPU. Should be a circle with circumference not reaching the edges.
 
Oh and another question, does the water cooling and increased fan speed kick in when required if the annoying and fiddly CAM software isn't running?

Quick way to tell is to run a stress test and have a monitoring program like HWiNFO64 open. It should show the RPM of the X41 fan (probably as CPU_FAN). Should also show the pump RPM as CPU_OPT or SYS_FAN etc.
