What's your hospital food like?

Hospital and airline food are both complete and utter dross. Yuck.

I was in hospital when I was still at school. Thing is, I ended up there because I crashed on a moped. A moped I was riding for my job. My job was delivering pizzas. I ate like a king when I was in there, my mates at the pizza place brought me lovely fresh pizza every night :D

Was years ago, but the absolute worst part was being given the previous bed occupants meal selections if they left before eating it on the day you arrived.

Airline food is much nicer! They at-least try to make it sound appealing. (plus there is booze on board)

Survived on cakes, crisps and biscuits.

Must be lucky here in NI. Been in hospital a few times over the years and always found the food to be fine. Wife had a week long stay after our fist child was born end of June and again food was perfectly fine.

Royal Brompton, in the private wing was nice :p

When I spent Christmas and new year in University hospital Coventry two years ago with knackered kidneys the food was really nice, until the beginning of January when the menu suddenly became a choice between a salad or a sandwich (I kid you not...)

That's exactly what happened to me today and the other guy ordered this veg leak thing err no thanks.
But the chicken was not the better option lmao.

You decide ..

You might not believe this but in one of our main entrances they have just built a Subway & Costa Coffee. The queues are massive but there are lots of complaints from clinics/wards about the smell.
We did have a huge fruit & veg stall outside the main entrance for months but they took it away.
Fatty food wins.

I actually become a patient on Monday for an operation so I'll be testing the food.
The toast smells OK when I walk down the corridors.

we ate at the hospital restaurant a few times. I was quite impressed
Stafford staff canteen is pretty good, I wouldn't eat the hospital food unless I was unconscious and it came in through a tube.

I tried to sneak out of the ward to get to their canteen but they insisted I stay and have hospital food in bed. I thought *** this, snuck out later and went home.

It wasn't open when I was in :(

I was in last Stoke Royal month, the food was foul. Luckily I didn't feel like eating for four days, but the only thing I'd touch afterwards were the sandwiches.

In the 70's, TV dinners came in separate little partitions, peas in one, mash in another - this works out OK.
Hospital food comes on one tray, and then nuked in a microwave - and it just decomposes into a foul smelling mush.

I'd get in early for the Subway queue if I were you :(

I don't get why hospitals insist on subjecting us to this ****, I'd rather pay £10/day and have something edible, that didn't make me want to vomit up the contents of 20 foot of intestine, and that would actually contribute to my recovery.

Never spent a night in hospital, but my missus did on our first born (this was in the US), and the bill afterwards was around $150 per meal... 2nd baby, i said, hold tight i'm gonna get you a maccy d's instead for $5.98

Last couple of times I was in hospital, there was a huge contrast.

To being with, I was in Watford General, which basically consisted of you placing an order in the morning, then come lunch or dinner, a man came around with a rack of four microwaves on a trolley which he proceeded to heat what were effectively microwave meals in. They were absolutely dire.

My next stay I was in a private hospital and the food was delicious, you got a proper three course meal for lunch and dinner and a full breakfast with lots of options. Only problem was that most of the time, I was too ill to eat it properly.

...

I would disagree. The food in British Airways' (international) Business and First Class is generally pretty good. I particularly looked forward to the desserts, like the mango and raspberry cream torte with raspberry compote, and the warm breads, like the rosemary and tomato ciabatta bread. ;) :D

...

Quite. My Dad spent about a week in private BUPA hospital many years ago and said that the food was really good. :)
