Anyone on here been affected?

We were at risk but have been lucky, lots of homes and businesses have been flooded ands people have been evacuated.

People have been offering spare rooms/beds in their homes to strangers , donating food, supplies ,clothes and bedding and also assisting others less abled to evacuate or even just offering lifts to people to shelter. The community spirit here is amazing!

I've just seen a video on facebook of Glenridding and Ullswater, the place hasn't only been flooded but has been badly damaged by debris from the mountains and the roads around the area have collapsed

The Govt. will soon be giving loads of aid to all the people affected I'm sure, just look how quick they are to offer aid to other Countries when disasters hit there, they won't see them suffering so they're sure to do the same for the British victims of a disaster... right?

Just about managed to get out of Carlisle on Thursday night, although there was flooding above the train station i was at they just turned one of the trains that was going up around. I know someone who's stuck there now though, which must suck.

I'm sure you already know the answer but the reason the foreign aid budget gives aid to third world countries after disasters and doesn't do the same for the UK is because people in the UK are insured against, or have the opportunity to insure against, events like this. Therefore as awful as the events are they do not cause widespread poverty or death from starvation.

But then you already knew that.

Things are not looking great for our factory there, it's currently inaccessible.

Couldn't imagine what it would be like if work was flooded for an extended period of time, let alone home. It's going to be a difficult Christmas for a lot of people :(

And I'm pretty sure there will be drinking water, food and accommodation available free for all those affected. There normally is after incidents like this in the UK...

British Citizens? LOL. They're more interested in the oil in Syria.

The power is about to go off in Carlisle, they are doing it in blocks to safeguard the substation which is getting hammered, the substation is located beside the main river lol why do the elec company's continue to locate these there is beyond me:confused:

Syrian oil reserves don't even make it into the top 30 the world, so I hardly think that's the case. It really is worrying the sort of bizarre opinions people are content to parrot around the Internet without doing any real background research first.

Holy **** that last one, look how high it is!!!!???!?!!

Makes you wonder why they built a city in a hole though... :p

That last image looks scary. That must be 6ft+ deep, how do you prepare for that even if you know it's coming??

Wow that looks bad! Best of wishes to everyone there !!

EDIT : The red(ish) brick building on the left hand side looks shocked and slightly disappointed hahahahaha!

When we got the new flood defences built after the 2005 floods, all it's done is create a bottleneck, lucky for me i am at the wide end before all three river meet and with high tide last night this is the outcome. :(
