970 vs 780

So a 780 is probably better for 1440p?

Edit: looks like the 970 is a fair bit better.

Wondering whether to go for a second hand 780 or a brand new 970, not sure if the 970 is worth the extra.

Looks like either is a decent jump over my 680 though.

I have a 780 and I would say a 970 will be a good 10 percent faster at 1440p but as you know some really good deals have been had for 780's recently so it's all about value for money for the kind of gaming experience you want.

if your willing to go second hand i have seen a few 980's going second hand for New 970 money. Personally i run a 980 @ 1440 and i can run pretty much everything maxed out with 70-100 fps

The 780 won't be good for 1440p having just 3gb memory and just short of raw grunt. The 970 would outperform it.

Cutting it close at times but never really ran out of VRAM at 1440p yet on mine (4K another story) - there is very little I can't run at ultra settings - sometimes have to drop the AA a bit but thats about it especially with G-SYNC.

The factory OC/rev B model 780s do OK at 1440p and will potentially match a stock 970 out the box but I wouldn't buy one now.

EDIT: nVidia seem to have a bit of hate for them as well with recent drivers :(

Well, I've bought a second hand evga 780 off the members market for £140 and sold my 680 to a mate for £80.

So decent upgrade for £60 I think :)

Only really wanted a bit more oomph for Elite Dangerous Horizons. Only game I really play these days.

60 pounds is a bargain. I came from a 670 and to be fair the 670 did alright but the 780 is a lot faster with higher settings at my 1920x1200 resolution.
