Hi guys,

I'm running 2560x1600, i7 2700k O/C to 4.5GHz, playing Witcher 3 etc. I'm currently using an old 7950 and need a boost. £500 is my absolute limit and noticed recently that a few 980ti's have dipped below that. Should I go for one of these now, or buy a stop gap 390 and then take a look at the new nVidia range when they come out? I'm assuming this will be 6 months away? My 7950 will go to my secondary gaming rig, replacing an ancient 4890(!), running 1920x1200. If I go the 390 route I can either sell it on later or pass it down to the second rig and sell on the 7950.

Any suggestions? Also, will there be any decent deals after Xmas?

If you wanted too, buy a 980Ti second hand and in my opinion, Nvidia cards tend to hold their price quite well second hand due to the high demand and just sell it closer to the time if the upgrade is worth it as really, no one has a clue what Pascal/greenland is going to be other than guesses based off unconfirmed specs, so grab the best you can and see if the upgrade is worth it!

cheapest route.......390

we don't know when they are going to drop new cards on the new nodes......might as well drop in a 390 and save the rest for when the new cards drop......or invest into free-sync monitor :D

I would go for a new top end £500 GPU at this point, new GPU's should be out in about 6 months.

I'll keep an eye out on post Xmas sales and see if anything catches my eye. I'm not looking at changing my monitor as I'm happy with my 30" Dell.

the 390 will not perform amazing at that res. 1080p its great 1440p its ok but at your res go 980ti. it will last you quite a while. as good as the 390 is its just not got the grunt to play on high settings above 1440p.

Just a quick question about the GPU W/C fan ... can this be mounted in place of my rear fan? I've got a Corsair Obsidian 800D with a long radiator fitted to the top, so I think the rear is the only spare place. I'm assuming it will be able to fit here and not affect the airflow too much?
