**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

Just treated myself to one of these, the bottom spec one, I keep getting graphics driver crashed error....any ideas? Mainly in Microsoft Edge.

Also are these able to play any games?

Keep running Windows update. It will eventually get upto date and should fix this.

Might need quite a few updates, including possibly the huge November one!

Been running AMIDuOS on my SP4: http://www.amiduos.com/

I missed my Android apps :p. Runs pretty well too. Did try Archon/Arc welder which uses Chrome but not all apps work with it. Only issue I noticed is the app does not like it when the SP4 goes to sleep.

I really want to test one of these out and see how it copes with my Lightroom workflow. I edit most of my photos whilst sitting on the couch, using a laptop. My concern is that the trackpad on the sp4 has no buttons, therefore making lightroom work tricky.

Ideally, I want to try one out and see how I get on with it, with the option of returning it if it doesn't suit my needs. I asked Currys about their return policy today and they stated the item has to be unused for a refund. I'm not going to drop 1k on a machine only to find out I cant return it if it doesn't work for me.

Anyone know of anywhere that has a refund policy that allows you to try the actual product first?

Microsoft store gives you time to try it. I use it for Lightroom and find it fine for casual use. I don't find the trackpad has any limitations, but it is hard to get used to editing on a small screen when you are used to doing it on a 27inch iMac.

Screen size doesn't bother me so much, i'm used to to working on a smaller screen. How do you find using things like the brush in lightroom when you have to click and drag at the same time? How is lightroom with the stylus?

The mousepad actually does have an area for left click on the bottom left, and right click on the bottom right, so you can use it just fine like any other mousepad, I've had no problems using it with multiple fingers. Still, I prefer using a mouse when using Photoshop.

Great thanks. I've ordered one, i5, 256GB. Ideally I'd like more space but I'm not prepared to move to the top of the range version. Should be here in a couple of days.

Got mine yesterday (i5/256GB/8GB), I gotta say I love it, it's fast, the keyboard is great, the screen is incredible. The only thing I don't like so far is I find the trackpad a little slow but I'll get used to that. Now I just got to find a decent sleeve as I'm afraid to take it out the house, anybody know of any good ones?

Got mine today, seems lovely so far. Couple of questions, when I don't have the type cover attached and select an input box, I expect the on screen keyboard to appear. However, this never happens. Is this a setting I need to change?

Also, does anyone know if its possible to change the three finger gesture to move backwards in the current application as apposed to switching between apps? I mainly use this on my dell for moving backwards between web pages.

Edit - anyone having issues with fan noise? I have the i5 8gb version and as soon as i load lightroom the fan spins up like a jet engine. Its unbearable. My 3 year old Dell i7 wouldn't have an issue here. I'm seriously tempted to send this back as there is no way i can put up with that.

Keyboard - switching to tablet mode (from the settings menu on the W10 task bar has this set up by default).

Gestures - can be configured in the mouse and touchpad section of the settings app.

Fan noise - I also had issues with the fans ramping up on the one I had at impromptu times, it was annoying. Seemed to get slightly better for some things after a few MS updates (if you haven't ran them all yet).

Does anyone play Eve on an SP4? How many clients could you multi-box with high fps on lowest settings (looking to gauge playability in fleet fight conditions)

Re. fan noise, whilst i appreciate the i5 is probably more suited to your needs, if you can try the m3. no fan and i believe it is underestimated. for me it is the reduced storage and memory that is the weaker point, not the cpu speed. from what i have read it is only about 15% slower than the i5 in everyday use.

i have compared it to my Macbook Air 2012 with 4gb and an i5 and the M3 surface is faster. Basic photo editing is no problem on it, and i have even done some basic video work.

Would have gladly gone for the m3 if it wasn't for the storage options. Seems a lot better today, been using lightroom and haven't heard the fan once. Will see how it gets on

How would the low end (M3) model handle games like Football Manager Touch/Minecraft (ftb) etc?

Looking to get a tablet so i can play lightish games on around the house, and the Linx10 just doesn't cut it lol

Minecraft, no issues, my daughter sits there using it all the time since we got the M3. I can't answer for football manager, it plays civ5 at full res no issues, it is like the game was designed for it. I have run Diablo 3 on it to, though not put any time into it, was just curious, it seems smooth from the 2 mins I played it.

In the settings, I think under input devices, you can change this. I did it for mine last night but can't remember where I found the setting, it's just a toggle switch. If you search keyboard it will probably come up. It says something like "bring up onscreen keyboard even when not in tablet or keyboard mode".

Switched full time to my SP4 as a desktop replacement for Visual Studio development.

It is so quiet. I'm convinced my fan is broken!

Drives my Dell 2560 x 1440 monitor well.

Happy with my i5 choice in the end. Perhaps would have liked the 16GB version for a little headroom when visualising machines.

The SSD speed upgrade over my SATA desktop probably gives it the most benefit.

Nearly chucked the system in its early days. But mostly stable these days :)

@POB glad to hear positive feedback about Visual Studio development.

Looking at the SP4 for work and then consuming content in the evenings. Seems an ideal device.

I am wanting the i7/16GB but not sure how quiet that set-up will be.
