Hi everyone, my first post, so go easy on me ! :)

Ive done a little reading over the various threads relating specifically to 970's. My 570 is now heading for retirement, so its time for an upgrade. Id been looking at a 970, due to the fact I game at1080p , like the lower power it uses and the low ish heat it produces, compared to amd and will probably stick to 1080p until a single affordable card does 4k at 60fps , maybe pascal?? ...My query being as Im looking at resale value when the next gens cards eventually appear, what in terms of brand are the ones to go for? Ive heard evga and msi are good cards, with good warranty, which are transferable..I think... Id been looking at the msi 970 as my first port of call, but then reading up on issues with rma's, some companies are better than others.. Any help or pointers would be great.

Thanks

Hi,

What is the rest of the spec you are using? also what case do you have as some cards may not fit.

I tend to recommend GTX970 based on price with these three being some of the cheaper but still excellent choices.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £799.07
(includes shipping: £11.10)

All three have good warranty and coolers.

I bought the Asus Strix, 237.99 after cashback and you get a game of choice that can be sold on the mm or auction site.

I'm away currently, so won't be able to test till the 7th though... :(

Thanks for the replys. I have a 2500k oc'd to 4ghz on a z68 gigabyte board. Older yes, but in my eyes, still a competent system, all in a 650d. Have upgraded the fans to bitfenix units, so hopefully cooling is taken care off. I actually was hovering over the buy button for the strix, as a combination of good clocks and a from an asthetic point of view, looked great as well. Id read that asus warranty isnt great and you cant transfer the warranty, should I decide to sell due to the allure of pascal , calling in the next 12 months. Could be wrong from a rma point of view about asus, as usually I just buy the unit and then read the small print about warranty exclusions etc

evga and gigabyte are good shouts for warranty with evga being the most favoured.

I have the gigabyte 970 g1 and its a damn good card. need ample space for it byt your 650d will have no trouble

Thankyou for the replies. One quick q before purchase. From reading I suppose each iteration of card is only different in cooling etc, as essentially each 970 for example are the same, so choice boils down to manufacturer preference, I assume? Clocks may vary slightly etc as well. So have narrowed my choice down to a ssc evga or the msi gaming edition with the gigabyte g1 gaming bringing up the rear lol msi unit looks like taking it...good choice?

I would avoid MSI and go with either EVGA or Gigabyte for their superior warranty practices.

I would go with the EVGA, very begrudgingly because the 390 Nitro costs £249.

So yeah, if you're all set on a 970 the EVGA would be my choice :)

Gigabyte G1 Gaming here. Can't moan about performance. Granted mine is 980 not 970, but I wager the cooler is very similar. Overclocked well, heat dissipation is decent. I am getting a bit more coil whine than I used to get with my previous 770 MSI Gaming. Went for Gigabyte due to well respected brand and good warranty service as advised by forum members.

I got the ichill black could have got a 390x for what I payed for the 970 but so worth it base temp 26c 27c playing final fanstay on ultra is 56c my 7950 winforce was 83c so glad I got it.

I get what you're saying and a 390x is probably the 'right' card to get for my budget from what ive read. Its a pretty lame excuse, but the extra juice takes to run it, have put me in the green camp. I will also use the card to play movies, as my mobo has no video, so its all down to the gpu and reading specs, the wattage used for movie playback is pretty high
