Hey everyone

How much do you spend per month on gas + electricity, how many people live in your house and how large is it?

I'm starting my first proper job shortly and aim to move back into Edinburgh within a few months. I've found a 1 bedroom flat option that would be £600 for rent, council tax and my bus pass into the centre, but I'm really not sure what to expect from the utilities bills. I'm likely to heat my bedroom and wherever I put my dining table for a couple of hours in the morning and a few at night during the colder months, but since I'll be out a lot I can't envisage using a great deal of power.

But this leads to another question. What percentage of your net income is too much to be spending on housing?

This may be a non-issue though, as I expect my salary to rise quite rapidly.

Thanks!

I'm in a Victorian flat with single glazed sash windows and a girlfriend that needs the heating on 24/7. :( :D

£40 p/m electricty
£80 p/m gas

I'm 29, live near Airdrie on the M8 corridor. For my fiancee and I in our 3 bed semi we are:

£450 Mortgage
£155 Council Tax
£120 Electricity (no gas, so this is heating and general electricity AND she likes the heating on all the time!).
£22 Buildings and Contents

Total: £747, about 20% of our net income.

My breakdown would be as follows:

£480 rent
£70 CT
No idea about the bills

That alone is about 40% of my net income. I am 21 though and as said, I do expect my wage to rise rapidly over the next few years.

2 bedroom house, used to be £30 a month for both but since our son has been born and my girlfriend is home all day with him for the last year, it has gone up to £45 a month for both

£73 electricity, no gas. 2 bedroom place with 2 of us and storage heating.

I calculate my own amounts these days. They tried to charge me £95 per month, but according to my readings (which match my invoices), my average use is £73 since I moved in over a year ago.

1900s semi, 4 double bedrooms, two adults, two under-6s.

£40/month electric, approx £40/month heating oil (half what it was two years ago, prices dropped), and £5/month for bottled gas (for cooker hobs).

2 bed mid terraced, only me and the wife:
Electricity ~£35
Gas ~£33

EDIT - added mortgage and council tax:

Mortgage: £1158
CT: £150

I live alone in a 2 bedroom house, averaged out through the year it's 15GBP pcm each for gas/electricity. Water is about 10GBP pcm.

2 bed flat and the DD is set to £75 a month at the moment by BG.

Most of that is electric as we have a lot of equipment always on (Microserver etc), gas doesn't count towards it that much as the flat is usually quite warm on its own, and I make my gf put a jumper on.... :p

£56 in my old place (2 bed end terrace).
Not sure about the new place, but shouldn't be much more.
£122 council tax though.
