What does everybody do here?

Legal(ish) highs?

Quite clearly Haribo.

I used to be a fighter pilot, well nearly - a weapons system officer. Very short lived career though thanks to a car accident.

I now manage engineering projects for oil companies.

Database Engineer. I work with Oracle version 8i through 12c, plus a bit of MySQL. Sounds dull but it's quite varied with everything from logical and physical design, performance tuning, clustering, monitoring (via Enterprise Manager), backup/restore & recovery, troubleshooting, project consultancy etc. all forming a part of the role.

The only parts I dislike are commuting and being on call.

I.T. Manager for a specific site in a much larger business, 2 Staff under me, but get involved in everything from helpdesk style jobs, servers and networking, as well as software development of our own in house systems.

iOS app developer. Started writing apps for sporting events then moved into literary/science apps and now working on home automation.

I mean... err.... I'm a playboy astronaut cowboy. *cough*

i think the official title is Analytical Rota Technician but i essentially work in a lab playing with chemicals and generating results but also support the environmental team and gas testing for entry's.

really enjoy the job and with shift allowance and benefits its quite well paid.... for a lab job anyway.

define poor pay

25k for 2nd line supp 15 miles outside of london (surrey) is poor pay. Thank god I've got a gf, we can pool our savings together and just might be able to put down a deposit in a few years.

If you're single though and on this sort of wage around here good luck!

I help run a Business Intelligence consultancy firm based in Ilkley.

Do work across a great variety of sectors so myself and the team get some great experience and generally our clients are remarkably good to work with.

Data scientist, sounds about as interesting as it is.

Mostly statistics with predictive modelling, ETL, coding & deploying models to the business. Half my job in reality is a game called "Spot the lurking/self-fulfilling variable".
