I almost certainly have not been scammed on ebay, any ideas?

Alternatively, seller could be telling the truth? Royal Mail are hardly the most reliable delivery company

I had great results with RM through most of 2015 - but already this year they've managed to completely lose one of my deliveries (including off their systems) and claim one had been delivered when it blatantly hadn't.

The first one turned up a couple of days ago - 2 weeks late the other they finally admitted the proof of delivery was from a previous delivery and that they'd traced it to having been delivered to the wrong place.

I can't see how you wont get your money back? The buyer being to provide a tracking number means this is a pretty straightforward case - yes it's a pain as you'll have to wait, but I can't see you losing out.

sorry, I'm lost

where's the scam?

The seller informs the buyer it's been lost and to claim via the ebay resolution centre which is the correct advice

I buy phone last Thursday, seller mails and says hes posted phone the day after. I said whats tracking number.. he says, he doesnt have one, but he will be notified when it arrives. It should arrive on Wednesday

( He sent it royal mail economy, the page says it would be sent parcelforce )

Tuesday night I say " sending a big ticket item without a tracking number is risky "

This morning at 644am, He mails me out the blue and says " Item has gone astray in post. I was told so by royal mail. You will be issued with a refund "

How would he know this at 644am in the morning on the day of the intended delivery?

where's the scam?

The seller is actually Paypal and these refunded transaction are a method to 'borrow' money from people with money to spend so they can gain interest during the claim period!

They're all in on it! I bought a tinfoil hat off the bay to protect me from their mind control but unfortunately it got lost in the post.

OP, have you considered making a thread in GD about it?

Plot twist: the OP used the Pay After Delivery option, so Paypal don't have his money anyway! :D

You jest - but there are people who treat ebay/paypal as a way of borrowing money like that rather than having to organise a loan :S

Wow what a state to get into. The seller even told you to apply for a refund through the correct process.

Please don't use eBay again if you are going to be a nervous wreck.

You might be on to something to be honest. I've heard of people doing this before.

They will sell a high value item, sit on it as long as possible before the buyer starts asking questions, then refund them by the slowest means possible. It's essentially a free payday loan for them.
