AMD’s Raja Koduri, head of Radeon Technologies Group, revealed that the company will be naming its future GPU architectures after stars, star systems and galaxies. The company’s head of the newly founded Radeon Technologies Group explained that the team is heading towards a new direction with a fresh look on all things graphics and there was a need to reflect this change of winds.

I can't wait until they release the new KIC 8462852 architecture. This star at least according to some "theorists" has a massively advanced (type II on the Kardashev scale) alien civilisation building a Dyson swarm around it to harness as much if it's solar stellar energy as possible.

If purely trying to grab as many headlines as possible could be monetised then AMD would be back in the black in no time

I think the RTG division has been given more independence so Koduri is doing what he sees fit. It may be his way of marketing the products in RTG. Let's hope they deliver.

Most companies do announce stuff around 3-6 months before launch so he is not doing anything out of the ordinary.
