Basically i've an issue with my port on my iPad. it doesn't always charge and i have to mess with the cable to get it to sit right within the mini before it starts charging.

is this a common issue with these lightning ports?

iPad is only a few months old so should i take it to apple to see if they can help?

I'd just take it to an Apple store, that's half the reason you pay Apple prices for the good after care.

I've never had a problem with the Lightning port on my iPad. I've had many issues with lightning cables in the past though. Are you sure it's not a cable issue? Have you tried the cable with other iDevices?

I wouldn't rush for a new charger... I had the same issue before Xmas.

Get a tooth pick or hair grip, lightly poke around edges and sides of the port. I did this not long ago and had tons of lint and dirt tucked in the edges and corners of my iPhone.

After getting it all out, all of my official and unofficial chargers work perfectly as soon as I plug them in!

Actually scrap that. He said it was fine but checking it isn't.

new charger required

Not surprised at all to hear the charger is at fault here. It's gotten to a point for me where I almost think Apple have designed the lightning cables to only last for a year at a time. Very poorly engineered cables imo, especially considering how expensively Apple sells them.

yes my son has been through a few cables. they don't seem unto the job

This happens to me whenever I travel. Specially when I'm charging my phone from the train or the bus. I suspect it has to do with the actual current from socket.

Same cables, same charger worked fine at home and at a friends house. But guess what, not at the very same transport and the very same seat I sat on upon my return journey.

A lot of people say that there may be fluff or dust, but this is only if it's really apparent.
I tried that method and didn't work for me.

I resorted to buying a portable battery charger, since having my phone 'online' is crucial for work.

FYI: you don't need to buy Apple chargers or cables only. Other name brands works just as fine.
