Hot Hatch Spec Me 10k

They might well start off advertised at that value but I highly doubt they are selling for that. If the front end of my car was perfect I would insist on at least £6.5k for it privately, so it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to expect a similar car to be closer to £8k from a trader - but there's next to no chance the cars you are seeing have anything other than a very chipped front end, probably about 4 owners, rusty roof and a non dealer history (not that this in itself is a problem, but it decreases value slightly).

If you want one just buy privately from someone who has had the typical warranty work carried out and save yourself a couple of grand. I'm not exactly rushed off my feet with people coming to see the car at 6 grand (though I do now have someone coming back to see it today) so be aware of what you might need to sell it for when moving it on again.

I wouldn't buy a Focus St either at the moment due to the lol asking price - you'd almost be better waiting for the newer shape to come down in price a touch

Great info, thanks for that! :)

I wouldn't. The reason the previous ST is holding value is due to the fact the newer one is worse.

So why get a worse car, simply because it's a little bit newer..

As per my post a bit further up, I think there was about 7 in the UK between 10.5k and 11k - Think one was also CAT C, so yes probably low end of that market.

Oh ok. :p Surprised they are holding value so well considering the amount of them about.

They're cracking cars, make no mistake. The chuckability of them is ridiculous, I never got mine to come loose once (I was on public roads though, so never pushed too hard). Some of the choices in terms of design are real head scratchers but then some seem to be a stroke of genius. Either way they drive like go karts and can be immense fun if you're not too fussed about top speed.

People with spines. I think the OP wants something which still has a modicum of comfort. A GP will drive him nuts.

Correct, a modicum of comfort is what I am after, hence looking at cars alongside the type-r.

If I wasn't bothered by comfort, or a small amount of practicality, I would get another S2000.

Pretty easy to get most small hatchs to go loose though. I could get my clio to do it if I really wanted to. I didn't often though, it was terrifying.

General advice is what I expected then really.

Look at the Golf, Would more people echo the Edition 30 version? it seems a lot more money than similar aged non-ed30?

Potentially the ST-3, 09/10 for around the 10k mark?

And maybe the Mini as a potential (If I can find one to have a test in)

And also don't pay over the odds for a Type-R if that is the final choice.

Thanks Guys.

Edition 30 is the best one to go for if you can find a decent example- I think you'll be up at the £8-9k region but i'll hold value anyway.

Consider a Leon Cupra if you can stomach the interior (facelifts are better, but for some reason most don't have xenons)

I say again: Mini Cooper S JCW GP (R52) :D

I concur.

OP shove your opinions of the Mini GP in the bin and take one out for a drive.

My GP2 was the most enjoyable car I had owned to date. And this was after coming from an M135i.

Yes it's a rather loud looking car. But the way it makes you feel behind the wheel.... Sheer driving pleasure.

You'd need to spend a considerable amount to get similar track focused car from a different marque..

Megane
G40
CAYMAN GT4 OR 911 GT3

Yes a true b road rebel!

And modicum of comfort is what you'll get with a Type-R. Can't see it being a million miles away from the Mini.
