Evening all,

Scraping the barrel here. Bought a ford Focus back in May, and it's too slow :p Searched remaps but the one i found literally gives a gain of 9bhp :(

I'm aware there's not much I can do to it, but surely there must be something I can do :p

Please advise :)

Points to note: Getting a new car is currently not an option :p

Oh this is a fairly common complaint, the simple fix is to swap in the engine from an RS. That normally cures it for most people.

There isn't really a lot you can do other than maybe strip it making it as light as possible.

Any performance investments are a complete waste of time because you might as well have bought a quicker car in the first place.

Did you not test drive before you purchased?

Yeah, but at that point I was after a car that was going to be reliable, decent service history, low mileage and a good size. All of which it has.

At that point I thought my bike would quench my need for speed and didn't need a quick car

1.6 Focuses were never designed with speed as a main factor. Then again, I've had a couple and they've never been particularly "slow". They're nippy enough for their purpose.

The only thing you can do is ensure you get a higher performance model next time.
The car you have got is a very good car, just you picked the wrong engine, but I doubt it is worth swapping for another Focus with more power?

Put a cone filter on it, you might get about 3BHP if you're lucky :D

I think the most sensible option is to adjust your driving style so that you are in the maximum power band more often.

i feel ya pain, goin down motorway in my 2003 pug206 1.1 was horrible...could just reach 75mph at a push and getting overtaken by kia picanto's was embarrassing

roll or better weather and ill get me gsxr out :D

I doubt it was that bad. I had a 54HP Polo as my last car, and it could happily sit in the outside lane at 90MPH if required. On the Autobahn obviously... :p

Yeah there's nothing wrong with the car at all. It's just I now want more power. And no point swapping. Salary should jump from £18k a year to £27k a year by the end of this year and then hopefully by end of next year £35k so I'll manage for a bit and then get a new car in 18 months or so :p
